Default How to even complete a mission?

Ok, so I started my first patrol, hung out in the area for 24hrs, and went back to port...nothing happened. So how do I complete the mission? Do I just go to "Abandon mission"? I've tried to save at that point, but when I load the saved career file, the game kills my career and I have to start all over again. The manual is horrible, as it doesn't actually tell you how to play the game. Help!

To finish a patrol get within 30 km of a friendly base and hit escape. choose exit patrol. When you do that you should be given an option of either to continue with the patrol or Dock at XXXX (what port your near). If the option doesn't appear, then your not close enough to the port yet. Try to make it back to the port your ordered too, you get more renown this way.

With saving your game, don't save while your underwater, it tends to crash the game when you reload. Don't add any mods to the game or any tweaks untill you're back in port as that can cause a CTD.

Best of luck!

WELCOME ABOARD!

First, patrolling for 24 hours gives you extra renown (disabled in GWX) but you don't have to do that, and it's only the beginning. You are then free to patrol anywhere you want to, and you don't have to head for home until you are low on fuel or torpedoes.

You can use the 'Teleport' option, which is to click on 'Return To Base', or you can actually sail back to your home port, and then click on 'Dock At XXXX'.

Remember, the fun is in the hunt, so make it last as long as you can.

Man, when I first started, I had this same problem. I even ended up damaging my bow because I thought that you had to "land" the sub back in it's pen....

I know you don't have to, but I still always try anyway. Somehow to me it just feels 'right'.

Isn't dockin in a pen, with your entire crew safe and with the ladies waving at you part of the fun?

Welcome aboard Kaleun kitfoo......you can navigate your boat into port, press Esc at any time or wait till your within 30km of base before pressing Esc (probably the most common).
Just watch out for that crewman Bernard

Ok, I finally got a mission to complete, but now I'm having saved game issues. If I try to save the game while under way, (on surface, not under water) it saves....but, when I go to reload my career later, it abandons my career. What am I doing wrong, and how can I prevent this from happening? It seems to be a waste to spend a few hours completing a mission, only to have my career abandoned when I try to save.

My fix for this is first of all.....back up your save files, then add the letter 'x' to your save name. It should then open....take the 'x' out at the next load up.

Or just add the 'x' to your back up save and create an additional 'ficticious' save as well.

Which file exactly are you putting the "x" after? (file name) Are they all the ones in the folder called "0"?

I'm at work right now and not in front of my computer. Go to the Careers folder and open it. There should be a sub folder or folders named the same as each of your Kaleuns ie: Reichling....just lengthen the name by adding the letter 'x'.
If you only have the one career saved and/or a pne called 'player', delete the player save and create a second ficticious career using any other name you want.
