Default nvidia geforce drivers

Hello,
Please help! In attempt to configure a stable SH3 on my machine I took some advice and updated my geforce drivers for my 8800gt from 6.14.11.6902 to the newer 6.14.11.6921. Now instead of having a Silent Hunter 3 that will sometimes play for hours without crashing it doesn't even load at all!?!? I have a support question out to Nvidia but I'm sure the support I'll receive here will be quicker and more effiecient! Nvidia's website is painfully difficult to navigate through and find the driver archive for my hardware can anyone get me back to square 1 or perhaps even suggest a driver that might make SH3 even more stable that my first one? Thanks in advance!!!! B

Spent quite a lot of time on the nVidia web page

IIRC theres a section on the page called Windows XP driver archive (or something like that) that has the older driver links. That help you. Assuming of course that your using XP :hmm:

Hi Bonfleck

I'm using the 6921 driver with my new 8800GT, no problems here with SH3/GWX. Not gloating , just wanted to say that it should also work for you. Good luck anyway!

....it can happen unloading and reloading Nvidia Drivers is not the most user friendly procedure, I avoid it like the plague.

1. Go to the Control Panel Uninstall Programs and uninstall your original Nvidia video drivers and REBOOT.

2. Say NO to all the auto install and found new hardware rubbish that pops up. You should now be looking at an UGLY VGA display.

3. Now you need to run a Nvidia driver removal tool, Nvidia drivers are notorious for lurking around in folders after an uninstall. They can botch your new install. Go to Guru3d www.guru3d.com and download Driver Cleaner Pro http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745 and read the README and then run it.... REBOOT.

4. Again say NO to all the POPUPS! Then go to the folder and execute the Nvidia driver executable that you desire, follow the prompts and when prompted REBOOT.

5. Go to the Nvidia Control Panel and reset your settings to what they were prior.

6. The latest drivers I see on Guru3D are the Nvidia 169.28 WHQL.

Where are you downloading your drivers from?

Good Luck!

I've actually had a lot of issues between my games and their latest two forcewares. I've rolled back to an older version that's working fine with everything. I know City of Heroes HATES the new Forceware drivers, and Neverwinter Nights HATES the one before that, so I run the driver before both of them. No problems.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. As of Sunday I found that the first version of the 6921 I downloaded and installed via a link from Nvidia support was a smaller version than the one I found on their website by 5MB. So I did all the aforementioned of un-installing, using the driver cleaner, re-installing the larger version and re-installiing SH3, defragging etc. I actually got 7 to 8 hours of stable continuous game play after that and was very happy. However upon attempting to play last night, the only way I got SH3 to load was by using "end it all" and opening and closing my dvd-rom to get SH3 to load. It will not load from the desktop icon without freezing during the load process. If I quit out of the game I have to reboot my machine and repeat the process to load it. None of this happened with the .6902 driver, but then again I never had 7 to 8 hours of stable gaming with it. Are there any other drivers that would be recommended for the 8800gt and where would I find them. Nvidia as of this morning suggests I try the beta version of 6928 which I'm apprehensive to try. As of yet I haven't been able to find a newer version of the asus soundmax driver or updated my motherboard bios. The latter of which scares the @#$% out of me. I wouldn't want to try it. Thanks to everyone so far! B
