Default 100% reality sinking rate

I started new career recently , and to get "more into it" im using realistic settings.
The sub of choice being type IIA from Kiel.
Question is: How realistic is sinking 1 ship in 3 patrols?
I add - 2 patrols were during storm / seasonal weather /.
Only during second patrol i managed to get the fix on large merchant , and identified it as hostile.
Third patrol - December 1939 of the coast of Norway // i allmost run my tanks empty chasing germans in fog and rain.
The thing that im spending +/_ 30 days in bars around Kiel did not help my sinking rate.
BTW: During my last visit to the port of Kiel one of my crew got stabbed in the bar and died- cool.

Whats your sinking rate in F/R?
Am i a badshot?
Is it close to reality? I think it is , and the fun i got from sinking that large merchie was enough to keep me playing with the real settings.

Edit: I just posted it in the workshop forum - my bad.

Well that's difficult to say, but just imagine the following:
- you most likely haven't been trained for years in a submarine school how to attack shipping
- you just started using 100% realism
- you had bad weather
- you drive a Typ II

Guess your quota is ok.
The best of the best might do better - also in reality - Erich Topp i.e. sank 6 ships in two patrols with his Typ II but I have no ideas about the weather. Schepke only had two successes in three patrols. And as you know: those two belong to the best

Lot of U-boats went out and sunk nothing

With a type II at this period 100% realism 1-2 ships per patrol isnt a bad thing

Some tonnage is better than none

It is very close to reality. There were hundreds of patrols made by U-boats in WW!II where nothing was spotted let alone sunk.

Take a look through these lists to give you an idea of the true rate of sinkings:

http://uboat.net/boats/listing.html

Take for example U20, a Type II commissioned in 1936 and scuttled in 1944. It made 17 combat patrols in that time and made 13 sinkings for a total of 30.067 GRT, 1 ship damaged for a total of 1.846 GRT, 2 ships a total loss for a total of 8.446 GRT

Another Type II U58, commissioned in 1939 and scuttled in 1945 made 12 patrols and was able to sink only 7 ships in total for 6 merchants ships sunk for a total of 16.148 GRT and 1 auxiliary warship sunk for a total of 8.401 GRT

The careers of both boats and skippers varied considerably. The SHIII game definately skews in favour of the player as you don't have to deal with the real conditions of the warwhich made finding and killing ships far more difficult than it is in SHIII.

Exactly what i thought.
I got bored of perfect torp solution served to me by WO on the plate.
I must say the game has diferent feel now , and every ship is the potential target , untill i see the flag.

Im testing the OLC mod at the moment - need some practice , as its completely new interface and i get lost what to do next.

As it is , im in march 1940 with 2 sinkings , but it feels right.
