The Admiral at Pearl is picking on me.

Dag nag it anyway I bend over backwards and almost get my crew and myself killed trying to do just what Comsubpac tells me to do then they let me hanging right outside Tojo's door.
The patrol started out going from Pearl to Honshu. Along the way I dodged DD after DD and some juicy Marus just so I would have enough ammo to tear things up a little in the star area ( south of Honshu ) and then maybe head back to pearl. Whoa here comes a large convoy, set things up and cleaned a few clocks. I had one torp remaining and had to drop to 210 feet because of a bad DD growling at me. Lost said DD, came up to surface 2300 hours and recharged batt. Sent HQ my status and I get the all clear for my rondevu point ( Star ).

OK wheres the rest of the message? I can't fight with just one stinking torpedo and in Tojo waters...........OH here it is....WTF??

Great I have one torp and they expect me to win the war. OK if that's the way they want it so be it. I started heading back toward Midway to reload and lord looky here. The radar has a Shokaku CV and all its 28000 tons crawling along at 5 NM with NO protection at all. And me with one lousy torpedo. Well it was about 0300 hours and pitch black out so no planes to worry about. I set up for the kill and waited at P depth until the torp I figured would hit about mid ship. The draft is about 28 feet and I know these damn torps screw up if you try magnetic but I'm going to try it any how and Whoosh out the tube door it went set at 25 feet. ( I remember all through SH4 if you set the torp for magnetic and set the draft a foot below the hull the torp would swim under the hull. )

KAMOOM right smack in the beam. I sat there looking at the monitor ( looking through scope ) astonished and by the time it was over I realized I should have taken a pic. The torp must have run just under the hull and the mag worked and blew heck out of her or it hit at the 25 feet I set it for and the hit points were just right. Anyway the CV never rolled nor stood on either end it just slowed to 2 kts and went straight down horizontal to the ocean surface.

I swear I am not making this up but only one torpedo on a CV? Is this supposed to really happen game wise? In real life I'm sure it did not.

Now no torps and very little ammo ( if needed ) so I again radioed my proud message only to hear nothing. I made it to Midway and refitted and turned around and headed for the Honshu area again. I was about 250-300 NM South East of the old target area when two small freighters came toward me. Well I thought what the heck their Marus and that's what I'm here for. Bang-bang both sunk with two torps each this time and they were small freighters at that.

At this point I needed a computer break and so I saved game. Guess what? The end screen said both objectives were completed. All I did was sink two small freighters to get it finally completed.

Wonder if the Admiral saw me wink at his daughter last time in Pearl?

I SH4 and I'm aheadin' for Pearl and a hot date too.

A carrier was sunk with one torp. The USS Albacore sunk HIJMS Taiho with one hit of a Mk 14 torpedo.

More info here:

http://www.combinedfleet.com/Taiho.htm

The story from the Albacore side is a beauty. The TDC went tits up seconds before they were about to fire. Skipper had to do a manual snapshot - left the scope up and fired all six forward tubes from the bearings as he called them. He watched the wake of each torpedo and saw they were passing astern so he successively aimed each one a little more to the right. Only one of the six hit but the rest is history...

So yeah, E-P anything is possible!! Nice shooting there mate!!

Cheers

Actually, you completed the mission when you sank the CV.
Deploy missions are automatically completed when you reach the vicinity of the star/bino icon. You are automatically given a second mission to sink ships. In the stock game you need to sink 10,000t of merchant sinking. In TM you just need 4,000t of merchant or naval shipping. You can sink this anywhere, you're not tied into the location of the deploy.

Glad to hear that the magnetic warhead did what it was supposed to do. The theory has always been that a well-placed magnetic detonation under the hull would sink anything including a battleship. I believe that today's torpedoes still use the under the hull method, but they use passive and active sonar, instead of magnetism.

I sank the Soryu with one torpedo once. If I remember, I had it set for contact, depth about 15ft, and I hit her about 1/3rd of her length up from the stern. She took nearly an hour to sink, but she did go down (just settled surely but slowly by the stern). On that patrol, that was my last torpedo too.

That was not in TM at the time, but was with NSM installed (SH4, patch 1.3).

I hit a flat top that was at anchor once (after a photo recon).

I had two fish in the fore tubes and 4 in the back. I lined up the shots with the fore tubes and planned another two out of the stern on my way out.

I fired the first, waited a few moments and fired the second. We started our turn and calculations for the stern shots.

Much to my amazement the first torpedo struck and holy smokes ! The carrier went up in a ball of flames ! Moments later the second (un needed) torpedo struck.

The carrier began to sink but came to rest on the bottom with at least half her hull above water.

Never got credit for it either

Golden BB I guess.
