Default The Nanny State to put up Chinese like Internet filters

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2...31/2129471.htm

The Aussies may be more PC than the UK I think.

In my opinion having lived in both countries for five years plus, I think not to your premise.

I know the UK probably takes the PC crown, but i-filters are a little rediculous.

Given that the filters are apparently left optional to the consumers, I don't see this to be very nanny-ish at all. Also, blocking pornography is not PC.

Hmm but I can see what will happen. People who opt out of the filters will immediately be put on a watch list and snooped on to see what they look at. So some guy wants to look at naked ladies sometimes or a couple of girls at it, big deal you think, but it will be watched and recorded and as soon as a sex attack takes place he or she will be called in for questioning.

Did I read it wrong? I thought he said it was 'mandatory'.

He then says consumers who want an unfiltered connection have to opt out. He wants it mandatory for the ISPs to have filters not the consumer.

Its kinda funny, cos this man rubbished completely John Howards attempts at limiting that sorta stuff. Said that it was a waste of time, blah blah.

Im not a pr0n man, never searched for it, but i tell you what, i'll be arguing against this one every step of the way

As a little extra for this story, Rudd is determined that every australian has access to world class high speed broadband, lightning fast stuff he wants. It's emerged this morning that were he to implement these filters at ISP level, performance would drop by between 17 and 78% - how's he gonna make this one work i wonder?

Increase speeds by 200% and suddenly the loss of 17% doesn't sound that bad maybe?

mmmmmm maybe,

I just dont think they understand the way thigns work tho - say you've got.... 5 million ppl on broadband. You increase that to 20million while leaving the same number of providers, then sure its great, everyone has broadband but the speeds will be slow. reduce it by between 17 and 78%, you dont have much speed at all..

I guess theres the point of view that something is better than nothing..

For times when women friends are hard to find, porn can be the solution to everything... except AIDS, but porn doesn't give you AIDS...
