Default Odd port escort occurrance

Several days ago I'd posted the following (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...postcount=1637) in the humorous screenshot thread because, well, it was doggone funny.

However, on my return back to Lorient, after being on patrol for 26 days, I start looking for my escort once I skirt the north side of the island and turn north towards Lorient. I've already started up the channel, unescorted when, to my shock and surprise, I see, in the exact same location (including being in half, and both halves oriented exactly as they'd been) as when I'd left, the aground --and still merrily blazing away-- minesweeper escort.

I can't believe that's a coincidence. Could someone, please, look at the harbour traffic in Lorient and see if the minesweeper escort, both egress and entrance, is acting suicidal?

Thanks!

Are you using GWX 2.0?

Also, have you enabled any non-GWX mods?

If so, which mods?

Yes, the latest GWX (2.04, yes?)
Yes: torpedo damage and U-boat 1.2 for GWX 2.0. But only those two. Everything else, mod-wise, is straight from the GWX downloads.

(btw, I'm running my 5th patrol as we 'speak'. Again leaving Lorient, and again running TC 1X and following the escort (no peeking at the nav map either! --grins--). This time there was no problems. That last patrol, though, was eerie. That run-aground minesweeper was exactly where it had been when I left 29 days earlier.)

What year and month(s) did the problem with the escort occur?

Did you save your game while you were still in the harbor or within 50km of it?

3 Sep 42: departed Lorient
28 Sep 42: arrived Lorient

And no, I hadn't saved within the harbour or within 50 km of it. I know better. :P

By the way, I've just read Neal's announcement of the Top Ten Subsim events of 2007. Congrats to you and all your team with GWX making #2!! You all deserve top kudos for making SHIII continue to be the sub simulation!

Have removed the coastal merc from the campaign files at Lorient
In case of future release

Lorient is the worst port for this kind of problem
TBH the buoys made it worse

The ships try to avoid the buoys so cut in channel more and so the AI avoidance routine kicks in the the merchant

I like the buoys! They come in very useful, especially when you try dead-reckoning navigating from only the bridge view and using the binoculars! --grins--

By the way, it was a tramp steamer that cut the escort off, not a coastal merchant; not sure if that makes a difference.

Honestly, it was no big having my escort suicide. Odd and strange, yes, in a funny-weird way. --chuckles-- But I just thought you'd like to know about it.
