Default Speed drops to zero under high time compression

I'm running 1.4 with TM 1.7.2 and SCAF for TM 1.7.2.

Occasionally, when running at TC levels above 128 or 256, my speed drops to 0. When I lower TC back under 32 the speed picks back up. This seems to happen only while surfaced.

It also may show up when I hit a waypoint.

Has anyone else come across this? It makes the return trip to Pearl bothersome if I can't use TC up in the high levels.

Yes, I've experienced this same behavior once before, also using 1.4 but no mods added.

You mean the speed dial says "0 kts"? If so, press the "return to course" button.

Or it just seems the sub doesn't move on the screen? Maybe the CPU can't handle the "high" time compression factor and the FPS drops to 0 (it can happen if there are many ships around, say near a port). Use Ctrl+F8 to display the FPS.

I've had this happen to me a few times. It seems to happen when I set way points while I'm in compressed time--but more often I have no problem with this behavior. When it does happen, I go to 1X, delete my waypoints, wait a few seconds and create new ones. That "almost" always fixes it.

I haven't been able to pin-point why this happens but I've begun to see a pttern of it occuring when there's heavier airplane traffic in the area. But that could be just coincidental...

Cheers!!!

If your starting from a saved game you have to go to the map and then order return to course.

Dont know why but no matter what speed you order in the 3d world the helm goes back to all stop after a few moments :hmm:

Not sure if thats your problem but that is what I have noticed.

I have been experimenting a little with this problem in my recently finished patrol:
-It only happens when on surface
-Only when above 64x time compression and on all the steps 128x, 256x ...
-Not much of a difference if I use way points or not
-At 2/3 the speed goes up and down between 11 and 8 because of the bad weather (high waves ), and then it starts going down until it reaches 0, and the submarine is actually stopped not a low FPS
-It all went away and back to normal when the submarine was away from the Japanese coast.

By the way the bad weather lasted for more than two weeks and the high waves only calmed down when close to Midway, I don't know if this has anything to do with the speed problem or if its normal to have this bad weather for so long.

End of transmision.

I found this happened to me only during rough weather and rough seas. The boat's speed goes up and down and at time acceleration it can't handle it. Only at less than 256x can you see the fluctuations in speed.

If you are watching the speed dial in TC, then DJF is correct, the high TC while in a storm causes the gauge to over-react. No biggy.

The cause of the ship stopping is usually that you have come to the end of your waypoints or hit something. A tired crew in BS mode can also cause this as well as running out of fuel or battery. If you are not navigating with waypoints I suggest you do and the waypoints should be placed while zoomed in on the map enough you can see the smaller islands and reefs.

It does stop the ship PV, at least on the nav map. I only had this happen in a couple of patrols but it does stop the ship. (not running out of waypoints and such, Im saying its not the guage) As others have said, its only in rough seas and at said TC though I found if you go up and down with the TC, it quits doing it. It's not doing it now, just happened a couple patrols.:hmm:

Make sure you are running the standard watch rotation...not General Quarters (battlestations.) I had this happening to me too, and then realized that I never secured from General Quarters after attacking a convoy. I cannot be certain this is the reason for periodic loss of propulsion, because I never ran a formal test of this mode (leaving the crew at battlestations for days.) However it just makes sense. Staying at General Quarters for an extended period of time fatigues your crew.

This is not a General Quarters issue or an end of waypoint issue - otherwise the sub would not start moving again when I drop TC below 128, nor would it only be apparent while on the surface.

My suspicion is that it's an interaction between modeling high seas and high TC.

I agree with Tabasco Jack, in my experience this is something related to high seas and TC; after starting a new patrol with calm sea no problems with speed and TC.
