Default Problem with installation

I recently reformatted my HD. Re-installed everything, but I screwed up SHIII installation. Now the game doesn't recognize the legal copy I own. It asks me to type the DVD ID, but it doesn't work. I uninstalled and re-installed more than once, no luck.

It used to work before, it's a good and legal copy. I suspect there is a registration file somewhere that wasn't deleted or something along those lines. Anyone can help? Please, I don't want to reformat again!!!!

Most likely a file left in the registry. A registry cleaning program should take care of it.

Sounds good. Any suggestion for such a program?

I know about regedit, but not too familiar with that.

In regedit you can use the Find option and type in 'Silent Hunter III' It will bring up all SH3 regos, then you can delete them. Just make sure they are SH3 rego's before you delete or create a system restore before you start if your really paranoid.

If still dont work try installing SH3 into a different folder eg: C:\Uboat\Silent hunter III

Make sure these temp files are gone as well look in

C:\DOCUME~1\you user name\Locals~1\TEMP\etc etc

look for perhaps a file called appcompat.txt and other rogue SH3 files

These files were meant to delete on exiting the install but didnt

Thanks all for your inputs. Finally fixed my problem. It was indeed the registry.

Well I'm off to sea now.

Pleased to hear it....in future you should also insert your game disc and perform the uninstall operation. You'd be suprised what the disc finds
