any idea how to resolve this...?

Try this it worked for me...

At the bottom left of the screen where the officers are click on the navigation officer and it should take you to his desk as if you are him. Then look down at the map. Do the same for the Weapons officer. Then click on the control room from the slide out menu (Left top of screen) once you are back in the control room look and see if it has solved this problem.

I often get this once every time I play the game. This always solves it for me. Usualy before this happens the game has a crash to desktop occur. But I can always recover from it so it doesnt bother me!
