[WIP] RadioLog_Expanded

I hope this is not premature, but I expect to have this project ready before the end of Dec.
I need to get a feel for how certain messages are presented. But first, a tease of info;
RadioLog_Expanded is a compilation and continuation of the messages_en.txt file. It makes no graphical changes or game file - scripting changes other then adding historicaly accurate and emersion messages to SH3. I use SH3Multi and found no problems whatsoever so far using/installing (JSGME) this text-mod with Super-Mods, or stock/vanilla. Even installed (but not recomended) mid-patrol.
History; I released RadioLog_2006_Final which is, well final of the work done by IrishRed (by permission). I made corrective edits & fixed a few hundred timer settings and combined this work with Additional-time-line-messages (a prior text-mod I released) which produced about 1,920 radio messages. This work dropped off after late 1940 and I decided to try and tackle finishing it up. RadioLog_Expanded will contain everything in 2006_Final plus the new messages.
So far in 1941 alone Expanded contains 2,148 radio messages.
Another example January `42 has 168 radio messages.
You can expect the rest of `42 & `43 to have similar #'s. 44 & 45 will have Expanded messages as well but consider the course of the war, loss of U-boats and available material. I still have to finish up part of `43, 44 & `45. All in all I now estimate RadioLog_Expanded will wind up with over 6,500 radio messages. I will ask for some patience as IRL jazz does happen, and this is a chew of work.
Now, being a text mod once installed you can edit the [From:] & [To:] parts to your liking with a good text editor. Still most people will probably want to enjoy them from the get-go. There are tons of @Intercept@ messages. Some report Convoy departures, others are from enemy subs & ships etc. Generaly they will be sent as follows:
From: Intercept
To: Deutsche Kräfte auf See
1st Question- Would [Radio Intercept] be seem more authentic? Other opinions welcome.
2nd Question- Being general messages to all boats I have included a [To:] I think that is better then left blank, which would cause the message to appear having been sent directly to your boat. (The game will insert your boat #) I guess I'd just like to know what people might prefer.
Other messages, U-boats reporting to Befehlshaber der U-Boote, Operations, SSS-SOS, BdU to Boats, etc. are presented with some variety but nothing fancy, in other words these are war time radio messages not entertainment for the boat crews. I beleive the sources are accurate to there translation.
Oh yeah, there are alot of messages from Raiders. Source is sometimes unclear on these destinations, or where they were sent to. As of now these are sent to "Deutsche Kräfte auf See" not "Befehlshaber der U-Boote". And presented that way. I would like opinions on that, not arguments please, thank you.

Danurve,
Just one man's opinion. Assuming these messages are solely for immersion. Obviously U-boats would intercept any messages that came within radio range and not just those intented for the particular boat, so a U-boat would see many more than those just sent to itself.

For raider messages, I like the idea of sending them to "Deutsche Kräfte auf See".
For general messages from BdU, you might consider sending some or all to "all U-boats", or "all U-boats North Atlantic" (not sure what the general and translated terms in use would have been).

Alot of work involved but if you can pull it off(and I'm sure you can)it would be really great for helping with the immersion factor

I could a supply a "motivational":
"faster"
"immediate"
"hurry up"
or our classic :
"yesterday"

This would be sufficent inspiration?

*EDIT*
OMG, danurve, if you need help translating something english <->german.... just call. There should be sufficient knowledge of both languages and ol' de misstayckes wone cain doh

Maybe the old, "Be more agressive!" message that BdU always gives you.

I would still try to formulate a more authorative and enforcing message... :hmm:
Mentioning honor and guilt are a good start?
So something like ... the honor of the "Kriegsmarine" ... or "your crew" or now it is time "YOU PAY BACK" .. your depts?

We could provide pay back with two guys in black uniforms, couldn't we? :rotfl: Only for motivational purposes of course ROTFLMAO

Heya;

While the [From:] & [To:] parts are translated, the body of the messages will be in English. I won't be translating these, I don't know German and won't use a program or web-service to do it because I don't beleive that would be the correct use of the language so to say. Now if someone wants to manually translate, good luck once this is released but with thousands of messages, sentances not just words I honestly don't see that happening.

Onward to motivation;
I started this probably months ago. It's not incedibly hard work just very tedious and repetitive at times. Luckily I'm stubborn, I guess. I can understand why after a point the original logs were not completed. Once this project was about 2/3 done I still felt drained from wanting to finish.
What to do :hmm:
Announce a [WIP]! Well now, the pressure's on
Actually seeing the interest here is enough motivation, and it's appriciated. A renewed effort.

must be more agressive
must be more agressive

Can you give some estimated (or counted) numbers?

Like #words or #letters?

I agree that you better NOT use a programm, they are not worth the effort. But there should be enough native speakers in this forum, i think.

hmmmm,

another idea with translation:

if you could feed e (mysql)-database with the needed messages, we could translate in the comunity into , hm, spain, french, italian, german, etc.

After that with perl we create the message-files for the different languages.

Another idea with that ist, that we could do a level-system for the messages in the database, so we could extract different versions of messages-files. one with only the needed messages, another full one, or one only without trallalla....

It is hard to explain in english, but perhaps you understand what i mean

Greetings Paco

*lach*, ich muss eh meine Englischkenntnisse irgendwie aufbesseren, was liegt da näher als das Angenehme mit dem Nützlichen zu verbinden

But writing in english is very hard , reading is more easyer.

Greetings,
Paco
