Default Re-install questions

Hello all,

I'm getting ready to cleanslate my version of SH3 in preparation for GWX 2.0. A couple of questions:

1.) When I first installed GWX a few months ago, I remember backing up my original patched SH3 onto my hard drive in a different folder. Nothing fancy...just copy and paste. If I uninstall my current GWX, will it really work if I just copy my backup back into the Ubisoft folder? There are perhaps other files hidden outside of the Ubisoft folder that are important. I guess this depends on registery type stuff.
If not...then...

2.) I recently moved, and I no longer have the documentation or the box the game came in. I only have the disc. I don't remember there being any Cd key or anything like that, but I'd like that verified before I erase anything. I'd rather stick with GWX 1.03 than delete it and be stuck with a cd but no cd key.

Thanks for the help.

OK, I have a copied & pasted backup of SH3 1.4b too and this is what I do to get a clean install.

Delete the SilentHunterIII program folder.
Delete the SH3 folder in My Documents.
Clear the Recycle bin.
Copy the backup into the location of the one just deleted.
Install GWX 2.0
Create a shortcut (if needed)
Play.
(of course, I have now created a copy & paste of GWX 2.0)

In response to your Serial Key question. As long as you don't clear the registry or choose uninstall SH3 from the control panel, the key should be retained.

Another alternative that I did this morning is to create a dual installation. To do this I did the following:

1. Rename your SilentHunterIII folder (the one in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft ) to whatever you want e.g. SilentHunterIII GWX1.03
2. Now put your DVD back in your DVD drive and click on install.
3. Then click on repair, which will create another SilentHunterIII folder.
4. Install patch 1.4.
5. Install the latest version of GWX.
6. When the renamed SilentHunterIII folder is no longer needed it can be safely deleted.

No cd key required during this procedure.

in light of the above, can 2.0 be installed on top of 1.03, and with mods enabled?

WAIT!

I just saw this mentioned on Subsim the other day.

If you use a career save that has you in port, you maybe (no promises) able to carry it over into GWX 2.0.

It's worth a try and if it doesnt work, just start another one.
