Default Would this mod be possible?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am wondering if its possible to make the Watch officer automatically alert us when heavy fog sets in and visibility is low....
When I TC to 256 or 512x I find myself clicking the weather Watch Officer's report button every ten seconds or so, so that if the weather should turn bad I don't cruise around in zero visibilty for too long.... its a bit annoying.

I've had it happen more than a few times, being thrown out of TC only to find ourselves in heavy fog with a destroyer task force at 600 meters range coming directly at us...

A good practice would be to stay submerged as long as possible. I normally only surface between 12 midnight and 5 O'clock only to charge my batteries. Plus you will get more contacts vie Sonar while submerged at further distances than you do using your Watch Crew. You will also see a dramatic increase in fuel mileage. Only drawback is that you need to set your speed to Ahead Slow, but you get used to it.

So that's how you do it!

I've always been conducting surface attacks near the British East Coast. Never always a good idea!

Yer but thats only really an option after you have reached your objective... I dont think BdU will be too impressed if you take an extra 6 weeks just to reach your patrol grid. Not to mention food supplies... I try to limit my type VII patrols to around 6 weeks maximum.

Is this true ? I would think that your range decreases because when recharging the batteries at least one diesel engine has to be set to ahead falnk, you see this at the rpm dial.
So while recharging you're significantly slower than normal and one engine has to go full power, too. That should add up to an increased amount of fuel spent but I never really tested it.

EDIT: Or was it that what you ment ? :>

I agree with Tuddley3 at #5 with regard to tactics, but considerable tests have been carried out in the past that determined it was marginally less economical (in diesel consumption terms) to travel submerged.

I don't think BDU (the game) "cares" how long you take to get there and since food supply isn't modelled as far as I know, that isn't an issue either. The only downside that I can see to being submerged all day, running at ahead slow, & only surfacing between 12am - 5am is that it takes a "year and a day" to get to areas like the US East Coast. I guess that method is for the extremely patient...

Of course the game doesnt "care" or model food supplies... that why I do it.

Actually, Ven, the intention was to be funny and honest... lol... on the hardway! Yours is funny too! =)

Sorry for the short answer, but if we start discussing it, you'll be filled with hope, and this is really a big NO!

Hardcoded or something...

Schwuppes, your opinion would be welcome on the last issue of the sound pack channel!
