More Tunes
![]() ![]() Is there a safe mod available for GW2 to add more period tunes to the radioman's list. Ones there are great but more would be nice. |

Want tons of tunes ? Go here....
http://ubrsdlc.realsimulation.com/ Go to the Silent Hunter III Files area of the forum. In the Silent Hunter III forum there is a thread called SHIII Gramaphone They are in zip files and if you download them all like I have, you will have a metric TON of period music and or German radio propaganda to enhance your experience. This is absolutely safe. All you have to do is unzip or unrar each file into your Silent Hunter III/data/sound/Gramaphone folder. If you have a song you want to drop in there, you can just toss the MP3 right in.. but the game prefers the OGG format for music. Sometimes MP3's get a little "skippy" for some reason according to some people although I have several MP3's in there and have yet to hear any problem with them. I put about 300 tunes in there because If I heard the song that goes "All over the place !" one more time, I was going to go crackerdog. This severely cuts down the number of times I hear it. ![]()

How do you download any of those files?
I see this: Quote:
There is a "Download Now" link on the page, but I believe it's for apartment rentals in Italy . . . which I don't need. Besides, the page it takes you to is blank. |

Yeah, I had the exact same problems with that site. Someone gave me a link to some similar files - if not the exact same sets - but I haven't really had a chance to install and play the game. The ones I got are in the .ogg format, not MP3.
I have had occasional problems when using MP3s in the game. I think some of it may be partly the file size combined with time compression settings and the graphics. My PC is good but not great. If the MP3 is on the large side and I have a have high TC and it starts storming in-game, it can skip or stick a bit. Not alot but, it's unpleasant all the same. The .ogg files are usually much smaller and seem to play smoothly under all game conditions. Anyway... There never has to be a shortage of authentic music for the SH franchise as it currently stands. Even for SH3, as a German crew, your options are broad. You'd have had not only access to much popular music from the Axis powers if desired, but also from the countries that were Occupied as the war progressed. The U.S. pretty much started to shut out Germany in late '39 I think, but relations with Latin America were mostly amicable until early 1942. Not only was Latin style music popular long before the war, but American recordings were available in those countries next to the domestic recordings. And what about American music anyway? Although Jazz and Swing music was officially frowned upon by the Reich, it was still present and even utilized by the RMVP* at times. In addition, I have read (accurate or not?) that later; Captured V-Discs from American forces were quite a popular prize with the German ground troops. Would not some of these have eventually found their way into the KM somehow? Just something to consider... * Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda |

Lookin' forward to it... If it's American style Jazz/Swing, etc., I probably have it or can use it if i don't. If it's German or other non-English music, I have a very limited amount of any of that either way. |

Much of it is German music of the period, plus (but not as much) English, movie themes, classical etc. Approximately 200 tunes taken from the 1,000 or so I currently have in my gramaphone folder.

To those who may be interested:
I just got a set of Historical recordings by Karl Schwendler - aka Charlie and his Orchestra. They were originally recorded under the direction of the RMVP (Goebbels) as a sort of Psy-Ops tool in the late 1930s. I haven't been able to nail-down specific dates (ca. 1938?). These were said to have been transmitted via Medium-wave and Short-wave radio all the way to the U.S./Canada and all points in-between (which many household radios/wireless were able to recieve). These may not quite be WW2 per se since they may pre-date Sept 1st, '39, but.. well, there they are. Warning/Achtung: I don't host the webiste the files are at. They're not mine. I'm merely giving a "Contact Report" if you will, a "Head's Up". The site is free and open to the general Internet Public. Disclaimer: "Dude, they're like, songs from the Nazis and stuff. Nuff said." ![]() http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2005/0...e_and_his.html A link off the above takes you to an incredibly entertaining and educational archive of vintage public domain films and supposedly music from all Eras - The Prelinger Collection. Great stuff from the U.S. Gov't in WW2 and hours upon hours of other stuff.. http://www.archive.org/details/prelinger ![]() |
