Pre Purchase Question

I am tinking of purchasing this title, the boxed version, and the large manual now the price is quiet low.

On question I hate to ask is does it require activation or similar? and or what sort of copy protection does it use? Or is it like the new "SOF" and only need a serial number?

One last question, how much harder is it that SHIII? Just wondering if I am up to this one. It sounds good but I am concerned it may be a little hard. Does it have setting for a beginner?
