Need Help considering .zon and .sim Files!
Hi there!
I recently stumbled uppon SH3 Inspector, and I must say it is a good program. So here is my problem or better said question. I wanted to modify the german submarines, so that they match all the specifications given at uboat.net (so said realistic specifications)! Well with SH3 Inspector it isnŽt a great deal to alter displacement, speed, horsepower etc. Very cool I thought! But as I started the game and tested the VII B Sub I recognized that the speed isnŽt as I specified it!!! The sea is calm and the top speed of the VII B should be 17,9 kn but it is like 1 kn slower. Why is that? I also changed the values in the .cfg file. So there must be more to the mass, horsepower, speed and displacement than I thought. Any comments, suggestions or help would be very welcome. Thanks in advance Greetz Dr.Zod |

That's because when you modify files using that program, a copy of the file is created in the same directory, and in order to see the changes you made, you must first delete the copies of the files you tweaked, or SH3 will use the copies.
I hope this helps you. ![]() CapZap

Thats right, but the program renames the files, so they shouldnŽt be affected!
IŽll give it a shot anyway thanks for your answer. By the way I use GWX 1.03, so you think this could be a reason? Greetz Dr.Zod |

Hi Dr. Zod,
I don't know how to stress this enough. Adding historically accurate data into files controlling physics, DOES NOT yield historically accurate performance in game in MANY cases. To get accurate, historically plausible performance, it is COMPLETELY necessary to start with a baseline isolated entry, and then to observe and adjust, many times over IN GAME... against reputable published works. ie: In GWX development when we discovered this, it required loads of adjustments after adjustments to yield historically plausible outcomes. (Collectively across the board, I am talking about tens of thousands of adjustments for everything from battery life to .zon file compartmental flooding.) Therefore, when you examine some of the settings inside the GWX files, you'll come away scratching your head. (Not trying to sound harsh. Just pointing out the gravity/seriousness of things that look simple at first... and turn out to be anything but.) Good luck to you. |

So you say Kpt.Lehmann,
in GWX the Subs are as "Realistic" as possible, if that is the case that is just great! Well I edited displacement, draft, range and hp. And It looks ok so far ingame (after I followed the instructions of deleting the backup fies). But if you say that the ingame it is affected otherwise IŽll rather use the stock GWX settings!
