Default the things you see

i'm RTB after a fairly successful patrol, 6 ships for just over 25k tonnes, when nearing Wilhelmshaven what passes abaft of me are Rodney, Hood, 2 Southhampton cruisers and 4 V&W(?) destroyers. the catch is, i'm all outta eels . did manage to cure an itch. got a Ritterkreuz 2nd Klass and promoted to Sr. Leutnant. passed the award on to the weapons offizier, but i didn't see anything to indicate i got promoted

You should notice the change in rank when reading your patrol orders or viewing the table/list of U-boat Aces

Something similar:

I had plunked 3 eels into HMS Hood and one into Renown which made them slow down but not sink, this was about 200km west of Scapa in 1939,

I got away from the escorts and continued my patrol in AM36, sunk a bunch of small fry making my way to AM53 and back to AM36, shot my last eel into a coastal tanker north of Loch Ewe and headed home, then 8 hours later I get a radio report, HMS Hood, heading south to loch ewe at 5 knots!!!! at exactly the same spot I sunk that stupid coastal tanker 8 hours earlier....

You can surface and issue a contact report in such cases. Maybe some other German forces could get them!

Yea - when i'm outa eels I try to do that. Like - if I see a massive TF or convoy, and I'm ~10km or so away, I'll surface, spot them, then call it in, then dive and evade. With that much distance, I can safely clear the datum before the escorts arrive. I've never seen Axis air support in the Nord See though. In the med, it's so frequent I can count on it.
