dual core and sh3 + 2 other ?ueries

hi hunters

one or two technical questions if thats ok..

1. can sh3 pull from dual core - i was thinking about an upgrade to dual core but i'm 939 socket and my choices are limited and potentially expensive and dont match up to my athlon 2.4 single core.

2. i would like to turn off the harbor traffic to lessen fps drop on leaving and entering harbor; im running gwx 1.03....( is there a 1.04 ? ).

3. i had a crash to desk top the other night during game ( first one since this install 4 months ago ). i was using external camera alot whilst cutting back to the internal boat. alot of action on the surface too, night time also, - explosions and the like - i was getting battered and didnt want to lose my crew, hence the external camera; it didnt help in the end - i went down. but anyaway the crash, i think it must have been all the action. i got the PLEASE INFORM MICROSOFT... DO YOU WISH TO SEND ERROR REPRT... then black screen. has not happened again, yet ! any clues Herr Kaleuns ?

I dont think SH3 pulls from a duo CPU

1.04 is in the making - there is already a lite harbour traffic mod in the MODS folder
Enable through JSGME

The next time you get a CTD and the box pops up
There is a line - click here for more information IIRC
Click that and will give you the error

simdata.dll

All very useful in pinpointing problems

What are your current comp specs
It may just have been too much going on for your rig to handle

Not quite sure what you mean by "pull from dual core". But I run SH3 on my laptop which has a dual core processor and it runs fine.

AMD 64x2 TL-50 1.61 GHz
2 GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce Go7600 256mb Graphics Card

what i mean is can sh3 utilize both cores - as modern games are now being scripted to. i have a feeling that sh3 would only utilize the one core in a dual - but i don't know ??
plesase excuse the heavy-trucker terminology 'pull'

thought it made me sound like i new what i was talking about. !!

i was thinking about upgrading to a dual but as i'm running a single core at 2.4ghz i dont see the point if i lose out. my set up at the moment is more than enough for sh3 - just the occasional blip when things crash or slow up.

I'm using dual cores. SH3 doesn't utilize them unless you edit a whole bunch of crap, as I did, in the main game frame. I'm not even sure that's legal, but I did it anyway.

Now, I'm not sure if it takes advantage of Dual Cores or not. I had to run in and edit files in regards to the engine and basically rework the inner codes of the game.

Several sites that I've been investigating this on claim that it does accept Dual Cores, others that it doesn't (so all that time I spent may have been for nothing).

I'll look more into this and also check to see if I've preformed "illegal activities"...

Well I second that, but there is an advantage because the OS utilizes both cores and makes some load balancing. Thats the way SHIII derives benefit.

I upgraded from SocketA to S939. Had a good AGP-Card and RAM and thats the only way to keep it.

I am quite satisfied. Now I can sit down, lean back, drink my tea and wait for AM3 Systems with quadro Core CPUs.

...cause i don't understand: i have an athlon 64 3800+ with 2gb ram and n/vidia 7900gs graphics card. sh3 runs well on this spec, just some fps slowing down in port and leaving port. what would you recommend as an upgrade with sh3 in mind, are you saying it will benefit from dual core in some way ?

p.s my grandmother lives in Klagenfurt

My old system was a bit slower, XP3000+, and therefore I tried to pull out the maximum of a Socket939 System. If your framerate does nearly not drop under whatever condition there is no need for upgrading with SHIII in mind.

The fastets CPUs for S939 are the Opteron 185 and 64X2 4800+ It is the same CPU but the Opterons were selected quality not locked and dedicated to be used in servers. I took the Opteron because I could not get a 4800+ they are very rare and the Opteron 185 are available for a moderate price. Most people do not know that it is the same or even know what an opteron is.

Concerning memory, Windows 32bit can adress a maximum of 4GB ram, you can reduce paging because there is no need of, this makes your system react quicker.

What I dont know is if it is allowed to turn off paging completely. In former Win versions it was always said that a minimum amount of paging is necessary to funtion flawlessly.

Btw. My dad, he died unfortunately 3 years ago, was born in Friesach which is not far away from Klagenfurt, your grandma will know where it is.
