is the motto of the 2nd German Conference on Climate Change which will be held on October 23, sponsored by the EnBW AG, the "Power Pioneers".

Al Gore will be there, too.

Germany sells the most climate friendly technolgy worldwide. The renewable energy industry is proposed to overtake ze beloved automobile industry in Germany by the next decade.

The USA is already a strong competitor on second place.

As for transcontinental investments, the German energy giant E.ON is investing EUR 3.5 billion into US wind energy in New York and Texas after snatching Airtricity`’s North American assets. "This takeover marks the first time E.ON has attained a strong renewables market position with considerable growth potential outside of Europe"

Now that Al Gore has brought the climate change to the attention of more Americans, the rate of growth of investments into green technology will rise due to a new customer awareness.
“The U.S. wind energy market is one of the most attractive worldwide. According to Ernst & Young's "Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Indices", it scores 72, which is the highest score, followed by India, Spain and the UK, which score 64 each. Given the extension of government funding and the introduction of renewables guidelines at state level, the U.S. wind energy market is going to be generating growth rates in excess of 10 percent annually expected over the next 10 years.”

The entire climate change arguement is a non-winner because the save the planet folks cannot come together on what is most important to them and will never be satisfied.

After years of study but little progress reducing bird kills, environmentalists have sued to force turbine owners to take tough corrective measures.

Back to the economics: If every attempt to change habits are met with a law suit no progress can be made. Private industry is the best bet for the enviros to make a change, but if the knees are cut from private industry to bring its substancial influence to bear, why bother with any of it?

Well, solar and wind energy certainly is one of the silver items of Germn economy, and as a matter of fact, germany has been surprised by the number of longterm jobs that have been created by the booming of solar panels and wind turbines, for both of these germany is world market leader, and sells the most modern devices currently available. Books with orders are full for the next 15 years, and still more new companies emerge. the whole story is a nice example of how economy and ecology must not necessarily exclude each other, and that ecological buisiness cannot only generate profits, but a higher demand for jobs than can be satisfied immediately.

the more other nations copy the Germans, the more difficult it will become for Germans to defend their leading market role, of course. americans are far more aware of economical problems and energy questions, than the official policies in washington may suggest, and regional and city administrations often behave far more clever than the White house, an d are ahead of it's polcies by years, and even up to a decade. It is their demand for according solutions that has pushed the US to already second place on the world market. Due to the sheer size, America probably takes over first place sooner or later - with American idiotic politics still talking ten years behind.

Ten years behind on Wind farms b/c of the law suits from the left. Policy allows for and promotes private industry. Probably one of the few legitimate roles of government, behind defending the borders and delivering the mail.

Oh yea, private industry has done real wonders so far for us. They make the mess and then we're all supposed to turn around and expect them to clean it up because... of... I guess you could cop out and say "market forces". That ambiguous enough?

Indoor plumbing,
Electric grid,
plentiful food ,
automobiles,
airplanes,
garbage collection,
telephone service,
computers,
software for the computers,
medications, you name it,
television,
radio,
Canucks,
dishwashers,
clothes washing &drying machines,
nuclear power,
shoes,
clothes,

the list goes on and on, so yes I'd rather have private industry and the profit incentive do the work.

A. Stop being an anti-intellectual prigg. Double posting to say that is just... pathetic.

B. Claiming the invention of agriculture and plumbing etc.. as being the bounty of some private industry is one of the classic mistakes of analysing history. You take a modern concern and apply it to things which predate the context that you derive your thoughts from.

Necessity and private industry and not one in the same. You seem to want to take all of the nuances of human society and sweep them under the rug and say that some abstract force of human nature guides us ever forward. You can make that argument with faith and religion but not economics, not if you want to be telling as yet anonymous people not to post long arguments.

You are just another pruitan like all the other left wing and right wing ones that see the world as some extreme. Government didnt invent the farmer but it did invent the agency to keep overlording corporations from cheating the man who grew it with his own two hands (the reason that the Canadian Grain Comission was created).

Anyone ever heard of balance? I don't trust government implicitly not do I trust private industry, the difference is that at least there is the appearance of some control over government by those without boatloads of wealth. Its a classic historical pattern. Underregulation, followed by re-regulation, followed by overregulation and on and on. People get greedy, then they get desperate.

But I don't trust 'the market' at all, definitely not with with America's laws and policies.
