The longer I run SH4 the more physical and virtual memory it uses. Not sure if this is the way the game's coded, or because of a memory leak.
One time the game got so choppy, it was almost unplayable. So I saved and exited- took more than 60 seconds to get all desktop icons back and for memory usage to drop to normal. Reloaded the game and everything ran smooth again. Since there's the post on bugs for a 1.4 patch, I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this. If so, it may be a bug that needs to be fixed. If I'm the only one seeing this, don't want to report it as a bug. Gonna load a utility to monitor this if other people are experienceing something similar, as memory leaks can often cause a CTD.

I have seen a few posts on this and it seems to be a very rare occurence at present. I can say I have not experienced it. The only time I get the grinding to a holt is if my antivirus is updating automatically.

I'm having this kind of problem but just not as bad. There's pretty much everytime I start the game a minor stuttering and alt tabbing into desktop and going back into game fixes this. However, during a patrol I have to do this several times

I have encountered similar problems too. Since I got a my new graphics card things have improved but I do get a message after I exit the game saying that virtual memory is low.

I if I play it long enough the memory it eat's up will go all the way to 3 gig's before my PC put's up a warning saying it is running out of memory for all of my programs and by that time my FPS has gone from 60 to start with down to 8 FPS and starts to stutter.
But I think it is more XP related than the game because my Web Brouser does the exact same thing and also causes my PC to slow down. |

I experienced this but not with the game really. I had fiddled with setting my own virtual memory. Then the problem occured. Is your virtual memory set to windows controlled? I reset mine to windows controlled and the problem stopped.

Hmmmm, theoretically, the virtual memory usage shouldn't keep climbing. It will normally climb to some peak value, but hold there + or - a certain amount as things change.
Since other people are experiencing this, I'll go ahead and install the memory usage. Interesting too that it will eat up 3 gigs of physical ram. That's usually some issue to do with memory management (hence the term memory leak- game doesn't correctly flush unused data from memory when it's done with it). I will give it a try and see what comes up. If anyone else expereiencing problems wants to see what's going on, you'll need to install this utility. The process/system monitor in Task Manager is not sufficient. Process Explorer: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sExplorer.mspx AVG, yes VM is windows controlled. I only set it manually when I have 2 drives installed as that speeds up the VM use (set VM on the drive your windows install is not on). Right now my new system only has one drive.
