Default 'Das Boot' - An SH3 Theatrical Feature!

Hi all! I'm new to the forum, but an avid sub sim fan. I've been working on a Silent Hunter III movie based around the movie Das Boot and thought some people here might get a kick out of it. Check it out if interested I posted the You Tube links below. Thanks!

Description:
La Rochelle, France, 1941. Germany's U-boat fleet have been wrecking havoc all over the Atlantic, but the tables have started to turn against the Germans. Based on the movie 'Das Boot' by Wolfgang Petersen, this film will keep you thrilled from beginning to end! Grab some popcorn and settle in for the next 20 minutes!

Tex, that looks fantastic! It's 0430 in the UK and I just skimmed through it quickly, but I wanted to be one of the first to congratulate you on your work. I'm looking forward to a 'proper' look tomorrow/today

Many thanks for the kind words guys! As a fan of both Das Boot and SH3 it was only a matter of time before I took on this project.

Thanks again for watching!

PS: If you want to download it you can find it on my site here.

I had for a long time envisioned a project which linked the film in the game. my idea was to use all of the interior shots from the movie, and delete all the exterior shots from the film replacing them with dramatic footage from SH3.

so, when the captain was viewed inside the sub raising the periscope it would be from the film, but when it switched to his view outside the scope reticle it would be from SH3. Also, depth charge sequences would be from the game, while interior sequences would be from the movie.

in essence this would replace all of the exterior shots in the film with footage exclusively from SH3 creating a sort of hybrid game/movie.

in the end i decided that the project required more time and attention than i have to dedicate to such an undertaking and the project was abandoned.

As someone who has made his fair share of films be it SH3 related or simply for my own ammusement i can appreciate all of the "takes" and man hours required to put something like this together.

for example, i would imagine you went through several hours worth of convoy attacks in the game just to get the desired 3 minutes worth of footage... this is even more difficult when one considers the syncing of the film's spoken dialogue to the events "filmed" within the game.

nice work, this will go to three pages long by the end of the day tomorrow i'd be willing to bet.

Nice one Tex, very cool. But it's probably worth pointing out the Das Boot was not a 'Hollywood Movie', of course it was a German production, although apparently it was originally intended to be, with Paul Newman and Robert Redford both considered for the role of the 'Old Man'.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to watch this rather lengthy film and leaving me comments here. Much appreciated, I'm so glad you all enjoyed it.

Heya Chock! Thanks for making that nice realistic hull skin addon. I gave you credit for that in the end credits of the film. Also thanks for correcting me on the Hollywood bit. Honestly that's my mistake for not checking that, I just assumed it was a Hollywood movie of course, but makes sense it wasn't as it was all German actors..

I corrected my post and website.
