Default AI uboats DO attack

Snatched this screen grab of a type VIIC attacking a merchant on the surface.

We (U-48) have been hunting this convoy off Morrocco for two days and nights now, in horrible weather. Have bagged a whale factory ship (12K+ tons), 2 large cargo's (10K+ tons each) and hit a large passenger/cargo. With only 1 eel left, I am diving and will head for Cadiz to re-arm from the Thalia (it's Sept. 1940).

So I'm watching the sights with the external camera, and I see a type VIIC in the midst of the convoy - presumably the same one I posted here about the other day.

This time, he does something - he attacks a passing cargo ship with both flak and deck gun, AND he blows it up and sinks it! I could not even man my guns in this weather, but the AI is clearly not hindered that way. I grabbed the screen shot below just a second too late to catch the muzzle flash from his deck gun, but you can see where the round has hit just aft of the center deck house. He doesn't seem to chase any contacts down, he just reacted when this ship passed close by.

It made for a very interesting encounter, I must say.

Just this was my first time experiencing it, other then radio reports that is. This time I actually got to watch some other boat's actions first hand (well, virtually speaking, as U-48 was actually submerged and well out of visual range of the action).

I'm well familiar with the AI doing things off by itself in SHIV, just never seen it in SHIII, other then air attacks.

I installed gwx just yestarday and today i was just 30-40 kilometers east of southend when i saw a small convoy consisting of some armed trawler (or something like this ,some small ship) a large tanker and a 3rd ship witch i was unable to see because it was on the rear of the convoy.I was 2 kilometers forward of the escort when i saw it maneuvering towards me and several seconds later i heard a BANG.I didnt knew first what was but when i rise the periscop i saw a smoke from the ship and again several moments later another bangs and a watercolumns at the furthes ship.
It surely was another submarine but i am not using the free view and i was unable to find where was that uboot. Seconds later salvo of 3 (type IID) destroyed the large tanker but the feeling that i wasnt the sole operational submarine was deeply satisfying.
