first mod

I have been playing SH III now for about a year. When I read this forum I discoverd there are mods. But how do I start with the first mod and where can I download those? I am new for installing mods.

Please help!

And before you start with smaller different mods i advise you to choose one of the supermods: War Ace Campaign, NYGM or GWX. They have all or almost all bugs from stock SH3 fixed, and of course add a lot of new features/improvments. After that, you can look for other mods compatible with the one you have chosen (WAC,NYGM,GWX).

ANd you should use JSGME to install mods (search the stickies for JSGME). If you want to try WAC or Nygm then you need JSGME; GWX comes with installer.

Just installed GWX swtup Problem!!

I installed GWX setup from http://isaf.us/gwx/.
First I deleted SH III completely, installed it over again, then the update.
At last the GWX. The programm is running and SH III Academy is allright.
But when I initiate a new career and the first mission is loading, the programm stops and the PC is "hanging".
Anywhone who knows where this problem comes from and what to to?

Thank everybody for you reply's and helping me out.

Give it time (if you already haven't). It can take a while on first install

Many thanks, I am much obliged!
I just waited a bit longer and there it was!
Looks great.
However I must get used to it, I am missing the yello arrow in de free view wich presents the U-boat, also there is no weather report availeble from the nav. officer and the deck gun has only got the HE-shells.
Fot the year I am now playing SH III I'll nvever found the button for requesting an escort. Is this normal?

They removed that for the sake of realism, but you can restore it. Someone will very quickly tell you how.

That was done to keep him from giving it to you when you're 100 metres underwater. It is now available from the Watch Officer (you still have to have the Navigator slot filled, though).

That's because the real u-boats only carried HE.

AOD had that, SH3 never has. However, with GWX you can follow him out of the harbor, then make a mark where you are when he turns around. When you get back, you can wait there until he shows up, then follow him back in. Or you can just end the patrol there if you don't want to go all the way to the pier.

Steve has summed it all up nicely

The escorts button was never implemented when the game was released

The yellow arrow is easily re added but I dont have the files handy
Someone will be along shortly that does
