Default Mod release alpha - Flash Whizz wheel PT 1 for those who care

Hello chaps,

_seth_, Reece, BBW, Urfisch, sorry if I forget some...

Good to be back on the forums after a long while away and I see things are still going strong here in the SH3 modding community.

Diving Duck, finished his buoys yes yes yes, will be playing with that soon.

I reckon BBW is still the guy to point peeps in the good direction...

Nice nice

-------------------

And now for something completely different. :p

For those who are still using manual tdc and want a Whizz wheel I have created the front part of a little tool that some of you have constructed in paper introduced looong ago by don1reed here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...t=94608&page=2

well, I got my Photoshop 5.5 and Flash mx from under the dust and created

this: http://img395.imageshack.us/my.php?i....swf&width=800

Part one only,as I'm really nackered now and really need some sleep.

Pls give me some feedback on interface, usability etc. I tried to make it as closely as possible to the thing that don1Reed is using

here: http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cb11fu.jpg

Just drag with the mouse in the three green circles to turn the appropriate dials.

enjoy.

Second part for calculating speed coming up...

I have these files in projector files as well. Self running executable flash movie that can be run offline. PM me if you would like one.

This is really good stuff. Making more tools for navigation, attack setups, etc is the right way to be going for this game.

Any way thanks for the mod, i really like anything that makes this sim more real.

Perfect! Can this tool be integrated in periscope screen like dragable whizz wheel? It should be a great help for manual targeting.

Hi Dertien, long time no hear, thanks for the new whizz wheel, I still use your other mapping tools, thanks kindly, you may want to visit my download site and check out the SHIV Scene for SHIII. If you are back in swing here you will find a lot of mods out & the spotlight is on Racerboy at the moment, he has done a lot of good mods & there's no way of holding him down either!!
Cheers.

Dertein - This looks great. Do you intend for this to be something that can be run within the game (like some of the "slide out dial" mods)? If I can make a suggestion, I like how you have the "target bearing" written on the bearing line. Could you make the text larger, and label each circle so it's clear on the screen what each ring represents?

@venatore

Thx guv, haven't done too bad yourself.

@Slipper

No, it's not a download link, It's a Whizz Wheel for calculating AOB and then speed of the target ship manually, without a calculator. don1reed found a method of calculating the ship's speed very quickly, and you should read the thread if you want to know more.
I have a whizzwheel.exe file, which is the offline version of that page you load, so you don't need a browser to run it.

I will put that online as soon as I've got the second wheel in good working order

@coronas

Would love to, if someone can load a flashmovie in SH3 and make it sit on top of the map, this would work. Unfortunately I don't see that happening pretty soon, and there's no way you can rotate a dial in sh3... yet.

So you will need to alt-tab out of the game, or run the tool on a seperate pc, or print it out on cardboard and do it the WWII way.

What I can do is try to make a ruler, like the draggable Nomograph from wazzoo in order to calculate speed using the "Law of the sines" and incorporate that on the map.

This has also been detailed by don1reed in his post, but were not there yet.
I have made a simplified ruler to calculate speed for offline use based on this sliderule

I will make an online tutorial of this based on what don1reed posted.

But first things first.

@Reece

Hello old buddy,

A critical component on my laptop (that I had bought 3 months earlier on e-bay) burned up, and didn't have a budget for a second laptop at the time. Warranty was none and well... that about explains my return after 6 months of subsim solitude.

I've seen the excellent eyecandy that racerboy & yourself are producing, superb work. DDuck has finished the long awaited buoys, and he has really overdone himself, as usual.

Won't be long on the forum thou, as in 5 weeks, I'll be veeery close to you mate.
As you probably recall, I'm going downunder for 6 months at least. Not only 4 tourism, though, but to be a permanent resident in Aussie. We (me and my mate) land in Melbourne on the 5th of november at 22.30.

Anyways, great to be back and hear you soon m8.

@dmlavan

Sorry m8 as stated before, I don't think that it will be possible to run ingame, but I can make the text size a little bigger. In fact I'm planning a complete overhaul, as this was good for a first alpha release, but it's too "cluttered" in my opinion.

You'll see the results when its done.

catch you guys later
