Default Join the British Armed Forces

Join the army and do a 6 month tour in Iraq or Afghanistan fighting for your country and putting your life on the line.

The reward.....a 25% reduction in your council tax.

Commit a serious offence and find yourself imprisoned for 6 months.

The reward.....a 100% rebate in your council tax.

Must think hard about my options here :hmm:

Stay in prison for a serious offence, but then get released because you didn't do it.....a 0% rebate in your council tax.

What is worse; the 25% reduction is coming out of the already stretched MOD funds.

As far as I can see; if you are away in the army, but the council is still responsible for the state of your house, you must still pay the council for that responsibility.

Go to jail... Meet Bubba The Big Angry Guy.

Join the Army... Less chance of meeting Bubba.

Is there really any need for further discussion?

I am against such bonusses. As a voluntary soldier, you are a pro, doing your duty. Doing your duty is obligatory in your job. Doing your duty must not be thanked for - because it is a duty. I see this very much like the "old Prussians".

Get the essence of what I say, before heating up your sentiments. I know that I can easily be misunderstood here.

What I would like to see very much instead, is a far better payment of soldiers and everyone signing in to risk his life in the name of his people in general. What is being payed now I do not consider to be a fair example of "give and take". If you afford the luxury to operate a standing army with a solid risk of sending it into combat around the globe, treat them accordingly. In the end, medals is nothing your family can buy their bread with, if you get killed. Better payment, and better family support in the case of you know what, is of much better use for soldiers.

It's called a community showing it's appreciation for you doing your duty. It's a hell of a long shot calling it a bonus.

What value does that equate to ?
I believe the council tax rebate will equate to approx. £140:hmm:

About £500......not that much but still more than three times what the UK Government are advocating

Prison here I come.

Last night on the radio an ex-prisoner done his time and is out said "Many like me will re-offend because the law is an ass and once your inside you got access to all the latest gadgets, it's not punishment.

As for the Army issue way up between council tax reduction or getting body amour and what else they need on the front line you can bet council tax reduction is not going to win.
