Default Got Sub!

On patrol in Med., Nov. '41, spotted S-Class sub, chased it, deuled it out with deck guns a bit, torped it on fast bow shot (slow sinking), flakked it as I passed (tore chunks), sank bow first quick. (AP Flak takes it down the best... aside from that earlier eel) Fun to see this guy zig-zag, but I got him!

Questions for fellow Med. cruising Kaleuns:
1) Other than streaking across to the Straits of Gibraltar, what's a good Med. grid?
Since being on this set of patrols to the Med., it's been a little too quite for me. It's nice to have the much shorter routes from a base in Greece to the BdU designated patrol grid, often to CO51 or CO69. I bagged a Brit. passenger (2311 tn), skipped submerged from 3 Brit. destroyers routing to Tobruk ports, not much!
2) The patrol grids to the east of the Med. stop between Tobruk & Alexandria (does the edge of the world end here?) :hmm: , is there better hunting around Alexandria?
I'm up for trying some big in-port raids.

If you can give me some early tips, a big "Danke" to you in advance.

I'm not really sure on the best patrol grid in the Med but that was a nice shot.

Alex and Port Said are good challenging ports to raid. As far as grids go there are loads. Go for the obvious choke points between Gib and Alex and you'll find loads of traffic of all sorts. Italian TF's have some very pretty ships. You'll also become familiar with the 3 and 4 cruiser TF's that run between Malta and Alex.

The Med is a fun and challenging hunting ground.

Gute Jagd!

Thats going to really annoy the Royal Navy.

(I think I should claim bragging rights for the S-class I deck gunned and sunk 200km from Brest - no pics tho)

I like to slink around Malta to catch the relief convoys. Whilst in the Med 200 km east of Gib can be a treasure chest of targets

Around Malta is nice place to hunt and try to head off the convoys going to alex. And if your really lucky you can find the Ark Royal

Thanks for the pointers. I will be certain to cruise Malta and points further west of there. I just picked up the book, "At All Costs", by Sam Moses. It's all about getting a voyage of a tanker; SS Ohio, through Gibraltar (Aug. '42), known as "Operation Pedestal", to give critical relief to the remaining U.K. forces on Malta after nearly 2 years of intensive German bombing & naval seiges of shipping.

I skimmed ahead in the chapters... and came to a map of the massive escort routing, and it indicated 2 significant lighthouses off the coast of Tunisia. This got me considering the recent posts of wartime coastal lights... to have light/ or no light? (earlier post by She-Wolf) It describes that Cape Bon & Kelibia lighthouses were certainly lit, with patterned flashes, etc., so much so that the merchant gunners passing by had just about wished to shoot them out! They gave too much back-lighting & bearing to expose the merchants and to aid the attack of u-boats in that area. This does seem like a good point to consider in GWX. :hmm: At least have shoot-able coastal lights?
