With all of the problems that this title obviously has it's becomeing clear to me that the devs havent played it yet to see if it even works! (Build it yes" play it no)

I'm sure they've played it, they just weren't given enough time to finish it.

I have to agree with Party boy on this i reckon if theyhad spent another few months playing it to death they would have found the bugs, seems like it was rushed out basically the suits won out again from what ive heard

Here is what I think. The Devs need to worry about graphical glitches and gameplay problems like crashes to desktop and so on. The wondeful team of modders we have can fix all the historical and minor graphical bugs like skins and such. Not only can they fix historical problems, but also tweek the game to each player's wants (like realistic deck gun reloads vs gattling deckgun mode).

[WIP] All Torpedo Doors Open at Same Time mod v1.0
**Work in Progress** All Torpedo Doors Open at Same Time mod v1.0

I am currently working on a mod that allows all torpedo doors to be open at the same time. This isn't a keyboard function mod.. but actually fixes the problem in-game. I accidentally came across this fix while working on another mod. Anyways, it works perfectly and will be released soon.

Well, after further testing it seems that I have run into a problem. But I will see if I can fix it. Not sure if this will work.

The problem is I've had it happen without any notification of serious damage. I get hit, "We're taking damage sir!", I check the screen, only the AA/Deck guns are damaged. But after spending hours on the surface with a damage control crew active, I dive and sink nose first. That doesn't seem fair (or realistic? surely I'd have some indication of that kind of damage.)

IMHO>Report to Dev's
Hull integrity, may not be real life, but the chief of the boat should have some idea to pass on to Capt. SHIII's representation of hull diving ability ,needs to be addressed in patch for SHIV. Skipper's need to know ,to manage crew lives/health.
Needed option/feature !
Would like to see these in patched issues.

Graphical glitches and performance (monolith of death, memory leak ,stability)
and some gameplay bugs.

the harcoded things are the more important because are impossible or very difficult to fix by moders.

Seems that game play bugs are the main pain in the rear end so far

Well why wouldn't they be?

It's easy to look past graphics bugs, assuming they're not too big (even the infamous 'monolith' isn't much), it's easy to ignore spelling and even historical inaccuracies don't neccesarily ruin a game - gameplay, on the other hand, is key since it's a game after all.

Seriously, many olde time games that those of us with memory or a taste for relics cherish are butt-ugly and make real silly historical abstractions, but they're easy to like because they get the gameplay thing down pat.

I hate to be a negative Norbert, but I am a little disappointed at this point. Please
take everything I say with a grain of salt because I am not a game expert or a
programmer and I admit that at this point my thoughts
are half-formed. Also, I do not intend any wounding remarks at all.:p

First, I would have to spend 5-6-hundred dollars to upgrade my "measely"
2gig CPU and associated hardware to optimize this game and I'm not
going to do it just for this game! So it runs a bit slow and the cursor
has palsy. And it crashes often enough, even with the graphics slowed
to SHII (?) levels.

I would also suggest that the control buttons and the sequences for their use is
klutzy and not particularly intuitive.

But all of this is secondary and can be fixed, either by the builders or the modders.
What bothers me is that the game lacks SPIRIT! It doesn't have any American
can-do enthusiasm. It feels sterile to me: abstract and mechanical. SH I was much
better in that respect and SHII Pacific Aces wasn't too bad either. You know, if they
had gotten imput from the right sort of American ex-submariners they could have
given it all that kind of feel which it lacks now.

Also, the crew looks too central European to be a typical American crew. And
they all look like they spend time lifting weights and most US sailors didn't look like
that at all. Hell, I think they look like a bunch of neanderthals. (Maybe that's how
Americans look to Europeans anyway?:p )

I was also expecting a quantitative and qualitative jump in sophistication for this game
and it just isn't there. They may have pushed the graphics to a new level but
there seems to be nothing in the command, control and communications phases
of the game to create new interest for old subsim players. You have a crew of eighty
people and they should be bombarding you with information to help you make
deicisions. There should be a constant flow of messages from ComSubPac, etc. on
Magic decodes of shipping traffic, etc. Where is the human interaction? That's where they really
dropped the ball on this release, in my opinion.

It seems to me that unless there are some pretty serious improvements in this
particular game, there won't be that many new people signing up for the duration
in the Silent Service!

I do hope the designers come up with a couple more patches to make the game better.
In the meantime, I have uninstalled and await further developments. Back to SHIII, NYGMTW!!

Cordailly,

Fritz Wagner
