Default Anti sonar coatings

I was wondering if anti sonar coatings can affect your U-boats fuel efficiency?
(i.e. does it reduce you maximum cruising range whilst surfaced)

(sorry if this has been already been posted)

I don't think the coating changes the flow characteristics around the boat. In SH3/GWX this is not modelled and all boats have the default range/consumption no matter what "paint" they have

But do they help reducing the possibility of being detecetd or are thea more placebos?

Haven`t read much about the effectivity of these coatings in real life too.

In real life they were not actually used very extensively if at all I believe. Kept peeling off.

As regards to helping you evade, it does give you a boost, but me I'm a glutten for punishment, I don't use it.

I think only three subs were ever treated.

It does help reduce the effectiveness of enemy sonar, but it won't make you invisable to them. It just reduce the range they can detect you, which can mean you aviod of loose them easier than normal.
