I sailed out of lorient at the end of november with my IX-B boat and i headed to U.S coast ignoring one convoy in the middle of the atlantic because i wanted all torpedoes availables when i arrived to my patrol grid in New york waters.
There i waited 5 days submerged at day and surfacing at night for recharge batteries until U.S enters in the war and the green shipping turned to red. It is a carnage... several single ships withouth convoys or scorts travelling alone in routes in and out of new york harbour, i sunk 7 ships using torpedoes and deck gun with good weather. and i still have 14 torpedoes in my stores. I have to be careful because there are shallow waters and i saw the first catalina plane after 3 days of operations.(two bombs but missed) Also my fuel is near to 50 % and i have to save fuel for the return journey. thanks GWX ![]()

I say no. I got jumped in early 42
part of it was that i had the worst watch crew that the bdu could send me, they didn't spot a destroyer untill it was 200 meters away on a ramming run!! |

Get a copy of 'Torpedo Junction' (Homer Hickam is the author, I believe). It details much of the U-boat activity of America's east coast in 1942. You'll love it....I can't recommend it enough....enough said.
![]() BTW, you might try your "luck" off of Cape Hatteras. |
