Default God playing with the lightswitch - night sky glitch

This problem is too annoying to maintain silence.

I've searched everywhere for this and found nothing at all. Either I'm the only person who has the problem or I'm the only person who finds it annoying enough to post about it! :hmm:

The problem is simple enough: when it's night time and you're using the periscope and the waterline comes halfway over the scope (so the top half of the view is sky and the bottom half is underwater) the sky goes a shade brighter. The darker the sky is, the more noticable the effect; so while it's noticable but tolerable on a summer night in the Med, a pitch black winter night in the North Atlantic ends up looking like god is playing with the lightswitch. On a very calm night one could even "cheat" by intentionally positioning the scope on the waterline so that you can see everything bright as day.

This happens with (and without) every mod I've got.

Does anyone else have this issue? Is it a stock SH3 bug? A dodgy colour setting in one of the scene or envcolor files? My graphics card acting up? Any input appreciated ... thanks!
