Default Anyone good with vista?

Im trying to uninstall SH3 from my computer completely.

and it appears to uninstall completely, i search my entire C: for anything that could be remotely related to SH3 and i eradicate it from existance.

SH3 appears to uninstall properly

SH3 then reinstalls properly

SH3 runs properly in its stock condition

Sh3 patches to 1.4b properly

*BUT HERE IS THE INTERESTING PART*

when i run SH3 AFTER patch 1.4b is installed. it still has the GWX intro and loading screen, but it has the STOCK menu.

when you click "single missions" all of the GWX single missions appear where prior to 1.4b they do NOT appear. SH3 appears to be some sort of half stock half GWX warewolf mutant.

I have obviously missed something in the uninstall removal process with this real burr in the arse we call windows vista that is causing left over - dormant GWX components to re-activate when patch 1.4b is installed.

the question is... how do i get rid of SH3 and everything connected to it entirely... this is like trying to uninstall AOL :rotfl:

You know I've posted the extra steps for Vista users a few times now.

Steps here...

For Vista users, step 4 is important. Not deleting the virtual store will be the reason for your problem.

Vista users can avoid this behaviour by installing SH3 *outside* of the Program Files folder.

More like Microsoft needs to put out a patch so anything will run on Vista.

They don't need to - see my post above. A few slight changes to how you install/uninstall will see SH3 running sweet on Vista.

Remember too, that SH3 was developed without Vista in mind.

Yep, Vista handles permissions differently than XP. You may be the computer administrator, but that doesn't mean that you have total control of your computer.

For a quick overview, read up on the User Account Control

Understanding UAC and File Virtualization will take you most of the way to understanding Vista's permissions/security nuances.

BTW, thanks for the helpful input Stealth_Hunter; I'm sure it helps. What was it you were telling me in another thread? :hmm:

No worries mate. It seems now that most Vista-SH3 "problems" can be pinned down to just needing to do a few extra steps (ie clearing the virtual store when uninstalling and running as administrator when installing any game modifying files).

At least I'll be prepared whenever I make the move to Vista! (after about SP2, LOL!)

:hmm: Maybe the current convoluted "Windows Vista: Installing SH3 and Patching 1.4b" thread could be replaced with one just listing the install/uninstall steps I've outlined, plus links to related (and helpful) info? Seems to have had good success.
