Default The question about the course of target

I don't know how to educe the course of target. So please tell me how I can estimate the course of target(I'll estimate AOB by it). Thank you!

You get it when you ask for a speed estimate from your plotting team.

Your plotting team are: Miss Compass, Mr. ruler, Lord. gum (very important), Madame triangle.. on you map.
Who do you think is going to plot the vessels course.

But seriously, when you get a map contact and click on the square you'll see the heading of the unknown.. going (for example NE) and speed (for example fast).

Now, open your Compass and take the ruler out and plot an estimate course NE (which is 45*) over the contact. (mind you this is a very rough estimate and needs to be adjusted over time).

If you mean getting a bearing when at closer range, you can do that with the sonar (go round with the pointer until you here the vessel) look at the top left side of the screen at sonar station and you'll see its heading.

Or at attack range get a distance estimate (twice with an interval of 30sec. at least), get a speed estimate and then add the AOB which is given to you by the good crew you have. Set AOB and the plot is done!

actually, by plotting team I think he meant when you click the "estimate speed" button on the TDC input tool you are given an estimate of the target's course and speed.

After you take two range measurements and click the estimate speed button, you get something like "target speed 5 knots, course 285". You then send that to the tdc and adjust the AOB accordingly.

1)Go under water.
2) mark your position
3) locate target via hydrophone
4) ping target
5) record distance
6) convert distance to nautical miles
7) record bearing
8) draw a line from your point out to the edge of your bearing chart
9) zoom out on the map and draw a new line from your point parallel (or over) your first bearing line all the way out to the desired nautical mile distance.

That is your relative mark on target.

Do the same procedure every 5 minutes two or three times and you get a general course.

But,before you get "target speed 5 knots, course 285" ,you have to take two range measurements and two aob measurements . So that two aob measurements how to get?

no. you ONLY have to take range. Take range, send to tdc. Wait a few minutes. Take another range, send to tdc. Click on the speed estimate tool and click the button to estimate speed. It will tell you the course and speed. You do NOT need to get AOB or ANYTHING other that range (which also gets bearing) in order to have the course and speed estimate.

This is how it works with patch 1.3. There's a sticky on it right at the top of the first page of this forum.

which other thread?

your comments above make it seem as if you are saying that you have to input AOB to get the course and speed estimate, but you don't. Not at all. You only need range.
