Default Angle on Bow wheel

Hi

Really daft question, but I was just wondering if the ship on the 'Angle on Bow' wheel was my ship as seen from the target, or the target ship as seen from my submarine? The manual says it's what my ship would look like from the target, but I'm not sure...

I'm trying to hit a really small merchant vessel and I think it's the AoB calculation that's throwing my torpedoes off!

Thanks

You should mark it in relation to your boat's appraoch on the target. It is from your perspective, not the boats.

Turning your bow to bearing 0 on the target...and set the ships position based off what you see. Your solution is the estimated AOB. Don't fire on this because most likely the angle is no where near 90*

The ship on the wheel is the target ship. Point the ship's bow right or left as you see it thru the scope. Now a 90 degree angle is the easiest to determine - you shouldn't see the front or back of the superstructure and goalpost masts merge into one stick. It takes a bit of judgement, but try to determine to what degree the target ship is veering away or toward you.

The angle on the bow is what the target ship's lookout sighting report would say - "Sub sighted 60 degrees port".

Thanks again both of you. Don't know what I'd do without this forum. This is a tricky game but it certainly rewards a bit of patience. I think I understand it pretty well now and made an absolutely perfect hit with manual targetting! Very satisfying - thanks!

Default Congratulations

Good show! All this sounds intimidating because it is. Practice makes it second nature quite quickly and after practice it becomes fun.

Also, wait until you have the broadest side of the ship to fire your torpedoes. Think of it as "T". The merchant is the cross of the T and your sub is the down of the T. Attempt to stay within 45 degrees of this T(on either side) for the optimal firing postion. The fatter the canvas (side of the merchant) the great chance for a hit.
