Getting out of Wilhelmshaven

I've seen posts here discussing minefield and the friendly escort when leaving port. (I'm playing with GWX.) Do I need to follow that rascal when I leave Wilhelmshaven to stay safe or am I okay setting out on my own? It'd be a lot easier if I could move out on my own but don't want to end a career prematurely due to stupidity.

There is a pull down menu on your map screen that will show you the minefields and subnets in the friendly ports!

Look up in the left hand corner of your map.

4-5 pull down menus up there!!

Naw , Just go , just stay on the surface and you will be fine.

I just check the map (top left corner) on where the mines are and make a plot around them. and just steam away with 8 knots

I just click with waypoints out of Willemshaven, never encountered mines. Maybe Im just lucky

Or maybe the light harbour mod has something to do with it?

As long as you stay in the centre of the channel when leaving the estuary you will be fine. Go too close to either bank (left or right) and you probably wont be.

After coming out of the harbour basin and a little beyond to clear the ships at anchor, set your course on the lighthouse which is on the far shore in the direction of the channel exit, then as danlisa says steer right up the middle of the channel exit.

I way point out by aiming for the centre of the exit/entrance chanel. Haven't hit anything so far.
