Default Contacts appearing near me

Hi all

I have the stock standard SH3 v1.b installed and just one question.

From time to time, I will see in the nav screen a contact that is about say 60 kms away - now this contact has not been picked up my visual or hydrophone but I can see it on the nav window - what exactly is this contact? I mean if I haven't picked it up by my crew then should it not be there?

I think this is not realistic as my crew has not picked up this contact but I can see it in God's view so to speak -

Can i turn this feature off?
And what is this contact - a radio message that i dont get?

I have realism set at 57%.

Regards
Shelton.

These contacts represent other reports from other sources (U-Boats, planes, espionage etc). You can plot an intercept course and find them if you want. You will not pick them up in your hydrophones until you're 20-30Km away from them. This feature can be slightly modified if you click on the no map updates option in your realism settings.

34000 meters, to be precise.

In SH3, wolfpacks and other lone uboats are for the most part represented by the Contract Reports you receive. I assume for gameplay reaons, they don't report hourly. But you will sometimes get period reports of a convoys moving all the way across the Atlantic sometimes.

It actually depends on the quality, experience and fatigue level of the Radio/Hydrophone Crew but yes 34Km is the maximum distance you can pick up an enemy ship
