Default CTD Problem

Okay, i have this CTD problem for which i have no explanation whatsoever. Been testing and searching for similar things reported for some days now but can't get around it. Hopefully anyone here might have an idea on this one.

About a month ago i had to begin with a fresh XP install om my PC. As i was doing this i decided to upgrade memory from 1GB to 2GB for SHIV ( At this time SHIII had been collecting some dust on my shelf for the past few weeks ) Eventually i had to go back to SHIII, just liking it better so installed this again too patched to 1.4 and added GWX.

Now i get a CTD a little while after engaging a convoy. It simply kicks me back to Desktop with SHIIICmdr even considering it a normal ''quit the game event'' as it gives me the rollback message you'd normally get after leaving the game.

Now, i've tested and tested and the times i only meet single ship contacts i can play for hours on end without a problem. It's during or very shortly after a convoy attack i get this problem. I've tested it with both GWX & later vanilla but keep getting the same problem.

The only thing which has changed in the past few months was the addition of extra memory to my system, systemwise everything else remained as it was before which always allowed me to play SHIII without any problem. I went from ideas such as corrupt files to suspecting my OS but i really can't put my finger on anything anymore at the moment . So now here i am asking your input.

I'd love to play this game normally again, i wasn't all that charmed by SHIV after all. So, any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure, but it could be a graphics card problem, or - despite your upgrade - a memory problem

I think i can rule out my graphics gard, i had it when i first played SHIII updated with latest drivers and never had this problem.

Now for the memory, if you have any specific idea i'd really like to know cause this is driving me crazy.

Will pick up some, you mean. I've run it for days on known bad memory sticks without anything amiss detected. Swapping them is the only sure way to tell.

My CTD was completely fixed by switching off my audigy ZS and using the onboard soundcard instead... I don't know if that helps?
