Photos from the USS Cobia (SS- 245)

Pictures from my overnight stay on the USS Cobia in Manitowoc, WI.

Hey wait a minute thats a heathkit linear amplifier in the radio shack !

Yes, Manitowoc is a port on Lake Michigan. As I recall, they actually made submarines during the war, launching them sideways into the river there.

If you get the opportunity, I highly recommend seeing one of the subs along the Great Lakes. I had the pleasure of working as a tour guide on the USS Silversides (SS-236) for several years, so she's my favorite, but any of them are well worth a look.

The ones I recall, other than the Cobia, are USS Silversides in Muskegon, Michigan, USS Requin in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the USS Cod in Cleveland, Ohio
