Default Just finished watching Das Boot!

Wow, what a film! The ending sucks, after all they've been through to get knocked off like that stinks lol. But I should have known it wouldn't be a "they all lived happily ever after" ending . Have a sudden urge to go play SHIII now lol, off to the atlantic with me!

I got the movie yesterday finally and watched the first DVD, Director's version, but then the family said they had enough of it for one day (I somehow persuaded to watch it with me). So we'll see tonight what happens at Gibraltar. ^^

Spoiler...Spoiler...Spoiler. There could be hundreds of forum members here who haven't seen that film. Show some courtesy.

Only joking. Yeah I agree, it was a real bummer what happens at the end.

without a doubt. its the greatest submarine film of all time.the bravery of the people in those submarines. and the conditions they had to go through.makes you think. could we in present times go through what they did.?.

You know there's an even longer version? The Original, Uncut Version; 4 hours 53 minutes. Much better.

I haven't seen it since it first came out in the US (1981), it got a good review in the paper, so I dragged a friend to see it, subtitles and all. I just got SHIII recently, so I've ordered it and Iron Coffins to complete my indoctrination into sub service.

It is indeed remarkable what they were able to go through, but I think that if the situation called for it some would be able to go through it again in this day and age. I doubt everyone back in those days were able to do it also. It's like have you ever thought if another Alexander the Great could of been or could be? There are probably some people today in our world who could be that if the situational variables were there. Just like Alexander himself could of just been some peasant farmer if he weren't born in Greece (Macedonia), or if that part of the world was conquered by the Persians.

The only issue I have with Das Boot is the behaviour of the crew under attack- I highly doubt that an experienced crew with be shrieking and screaming as much as they do in this film....

I read somewhere that that was the one thing that annoyed the old U-Bootfahren as well.

Oh, well. Dramatic license.
