[REQ] map contact update on/off for radar/sonar possible?

Is it possible or has anyone thought about this? I normally play with all realism options enabled but leave map contact update on so that plotting contacts does not become too much of a pain.

This is good for radar because I can pretend that the radar operator gives bearings and ranges to the plot team, thinking that I can expect a clear picture of what's happening on the surface at pretty much all times.

What bothers me is that periscope observation gives all contacts' accurate positions as soon as the scope is high enough to spot the contacts - like it's a radar scope.

Ideally, I would like to play with RADAR map contact update ENABLED and VISUAL map contact update DISABLED. That would make periscope attacks more difficult and interesting because it prevents checking TDC/PK accuracy against the actual contact on the attack map.

Possible or not? Any ideas on how to tackle this? Like the idea?

BTW: Don't get me started on the fact that SD radar contacts plot range AND bearing...

I agree with you. The radar contact update and the update on the visual/periscope contact you're locked on should be the only contacts drawn on the map.
