Default Can anyone explain

How a destroyer that cannot be easily seen by my boat, spot my boat and make a b-line to it and blow it to hell?

This is a new "feature" of SH4 since patch 1.3. It really doesn't make any sense. It also doesn't help there is no "report nearest visual contact" control like there was in SH3.

Anyone else have this problem with eagle eyed destroyer crews?

I really cannot play Dead is Dead, cause I personally think I am getting seriously gyped by the new patch features.

Tired watch crew, perhaps? I never had such an issue. Realistically speaking (and this is moddeled into the game), the DD would see the sub prior to the sub seeing the DD (smoke excluded). Maybe you missed the Warship spotted message? It happened to me once I had gotten the we're under attack message the DD was within 2000m, 4 guns blazing.

With patch 1.3, if on a clear day with calm seas a DD spots your surfaced
boat farther than 8000 yds. away, either you have a bad install of the patch
or some mods you installed before the patch are not compatible with the patch.
I had the same thing happen to me with the first 1.3 install. I uninstalled and
reinstalled going directly from 1.0 to 1.3 version. All the oddities were gone with
the new install....

The DD are using passive sonar. also the high you are in the water the easier
the DD can spot you with look outs.

Check out Tests on DD Visual ranges- in subsim radio room.

ei: at 1 ft- range is 2,320yds. at 5 ft- range is 5,190yds and so on.

Pre-1.3 we determined that Japanese warships were using their air-search radar to detect your sub on the surface.

Could this still be going on? :hmm:

This has happened to me one time. Went out to smoke and left my sub running at x1 speed off Honshu Island, thinking nothing could possible get to me in 5 minutes at night... When I returned however, I saw several UFOs in the sky and a destoryer that was only 2000m away that somehow knew just when I got back to the keyboard to fire at me.
