Hi Guys
I was on my 16th patrol on my way to the newfoundland banks and had just sunk a big fat passenger liner of about 23000 grt a day or so before and now low and behold another one appreared from directly astern as it was daylight I immediately submerged and plotted a course to intercept this was done and I got to within about 1500 metres and then let fly 3 eels all of which hit their target. After the 3 hits I decided to lower the periscope and turn around for a stern shot so now that I was in position I raised the scope but I couldn't lock on the target as apparently the ship was already sinking but I didn't get the "She's going down" message on the message screen and also strangly enough didn't get the kill, I now surfaced and closed the liner which was now half sunk and was gone a few more minutes after that I tried sending a status report but it only had my first liner not both, this has never happened to me before so i am not sure what exactly happened, very strange. Anyway I continued my patrol and sank another 3 ships for about a total 35000 grt but it should of been about 57000 grt. Good news is i hit the 300,000 Grt mark gave myself the diamonds to cheer my dampened spirits. Anyway any explanation to why this was not recorded in my diary as a kill ??? PS :- Im using the latest GWX if thats any help. Cheers Easty |

A ghost ship perhaps? I have read of examples in the SH4 forum of ships being sunk and then somehow respawning and when they are sunk a second time you don't get the credit. I often wonder if ships that are sunk in a convoy respawn when you move a certain distance away or when you sink them they remain sunk.

Don't worry Easty, that happens quite often. I recently sunk two freighters in Freetown harbour by torpedo attack, they really slowly sunk, but I wasn't credited.
Is has something to do with saving, you should never save a game in combat. If you see an enemy, save the game, attack it, wait until it sinks, get the credit, save again. Not in between. This error is driving me mad, too! ![]()

Do you get credit for sinking by sending a report or some other way?

Could it be a scripted ship? Like the Bismark and such in GWX? I haven't met any but I understand they are meant to respawn if sunk so they can fulfill their destiny

Hi Guys
Sorry for the late reply to these messages. To answer your questions, first of all at no time did I save the game during this patrol, I hardly ever save the exception being if I need to go to sleep which happens a bit ![]() Secondly yes I did sink the exact type of liner a day or so before and did get credit for but this was another liner of the same class which I sank also but got no credit whatsoever for, no "She's Going Down Message" or when I sent a status reprt just my previous sinkings. Maybe it was the respawning of the same ship as it came from dead astern of me and on roughly the same course as the previous ship and It did suprise me that I should run intot he exact same class of ship twice in a day or so. I better hire out that old movie "Ghost Ship" and take a look to see if there are anything the same ![]() But it was a bit of a waste of 3 eels going all that way and then getting no credit and losing 3 valuable weapons that I could of used to increase my Grt for the patrol. Cheers Easty |
