Default NWN2 modding.

I've had the game since it came out but I only started playing it after I got my new Graphics card. To be honest, I'm already bored of the Original campaign which seems to be a hack-fest of stupid and pointless fights against hundreds of bad guys - Yawn. If I wanted that I would download a Spectrum Emulator and play 'Gauntlet,' (Ah, memories, memories,!)

So i went to look for some new modules and found a very disapointing selection. Given that it has been out for six months now I expected a few more but I guess people are waiting for patches or whateer before getting down to work.

Anyway, disapointed with the lack of good fun modules I thought I would give it a shot myself. Wow! it's great fun and I totally recommend messing around with the editor if you haven't done so already. My project is called 'The Shadow in the Marsh,' and will hopefully be a sort of Conan / Lovecraft / Cosmic horror cross when it's done. The biggest challenge is shoehorning my own ideas for a fantasy world into the D+D setting But I shall see how that goes.

So far I've got the town of Marshgate built. it's looking nice. I've worked out how transitions between areas work and how to 'Bake' and area in order to create walk-maps and so forth but I need to start figuring out how to add scripted stuff like conversations, cut-scenes and events. Given how easy the rest was to figure out though I'm not unduly worried.

It looks daunting but if you haven't tried the toolset yet you should. It's a lot easier to use than it looks at first glance.

The one downside is my Sh4 modding is likely to be slowed right down......

NWN=Neverwinter Nights

I think part of the problem is NWN 2 didnt do so well this time around as NWN 1. So less people modding/making modules for it.

Personaly i didnt care for it (tried it on a friend's computer for about 10 minutes) as mainly the combat felt very clunky and slow to me.

I like it purely for the modular aproach it takes. I like the idea of being able to download or build new adventures for a favoured character. Being a long time RPG fan (although, strangely, I've never been keen on Dungeons and dragons,) I just get a kick on building the cities and locations and setting things up. it reminds me of being a teenage DM back in the mid eighties when Pen and Paper RPGs were really beginning to pick up in popularity here in Britain and having to come up with a new adventure for the next session.

Ah those were the days... I have some of that stuff in a box somewhere, and sometimes dream of taking it up again. I still enjoy paging through the Call of Cuthulu stuff, and Harnmaster was my favorite when it came to fantasy, or more dirty medieval stuff that Harnmaster portraid really good. I also played some really good campaigns with Warhammer fantasy. Rpgs on the computer can be good, I do enjoy Oblivion, but it is different.

Cheers porphy

Ah, the Warhammer RPG! Yes, I'd almost forgotten about that one. I loved the huge hardback rules / sourcebook. My mother chucked all that stuff out when I left home. I played the Middle Earth one and the Fighting Fantasy one as well. I actually really liked that one. It was very simple but had lots of background.

I'm actually thinking about going out to buy some D+D stuff just so I can get some more ideas for my module.

So anyone playing on a decent server?

I used to play NWN1 on Merp LOTR and it was one of the best online games i've played. I was so excited when I got NWN2 because I could relive some of the fun but the lack of modules and good servers is sad.

oh, I prefer Persistant worlds...

I was really disapointed in NWN2 ending. I thought it had just kinda shut off, [Spoiler] I mean where did they go all we know is they're missing. Time for an expansion to continue the story i hope.

I am still playing NWN1, mainly because I don't expect my computer can run NWN2. I always thought all the players had gone to NWN2, because many servers now only have a handful of players. The PWs that are left are either pure roleplay (you gotta have PvP to keep things exciting) or pure action (likewise, you gotta have a story).

The newest patches give a massive boost to performance. Update your drivers, and if you can play NWN1 well, NwN2 will run ok if you crank the options down.

The single-player campaign was pretty decent up until the very end of the game. The very last dungeon is a massive turd in the D&D game genre. The trick to the single-player campaign is using the command line to allow 6 party members. When everyone gets their "party banter" lines going, the game goes pretty smooth. It does tend to make fights quite a bit easier, but if you're not playing the game for normal dungeon crawl purposes, then party banter is what you'll be wanting.

As for mods, I haven't tried any of them. I never tried mods for NwN1, either. There's dozens of games with mods that I've never taken the time to get installed and running.

The mods are needed in NWN for multiplayer. People make their own worlds to explore, it's a great game for mp if you can find a good server. Haven't been able to find anything I like in number 2 yet.

I remember one server in NWN1 had over a hundred people online at once. That was pretty cool for free online play. Plus it was better than guildwars as you could be walking anywhere and run into another player.

I still play Neverwinter Nights 1 and I still put stuff together on it. I'm going to wait till I get a new PC before I get NWN2, and besides.. there's so much cool stuff to toss into NWN 1 that it'll keep me occupied for ages.

I recall that some team of modders was working on converting NWN 1 into a Shadowrun (one of my favorite old pencil and paper RPG's) environment called Shadowrunner Nights. I last heard about it a year or so ago and don't know the status of it. It could have vaporised but then again, maybe not. We had to wait for like 3 years for the Community Tileset Pack.

Anyway.. this is the best site out there for content and addons for NWN 1 and 2.
