Default convoy attack

whats the best way to attack two ships at the same time in a convoy?

with manual targeting its usually too late for me to attack a second target accurately when manually gathering the info while my first torpedos are in the water... due to the time it takes to set up my second attack

I'm a novice when it comes to manual, I've only just begun training myself in this. But, perhaps presighting might work? Observe both targets and note their individual values, designate specific tubes for each target before hand and set their depths (I'm sure any descent sub skipper does this anyway). Select your first target, input previously acquired info with updated accuracy, fire, quickly move to next target, and repeat.

I don't know. I'd like to hear what the vets have to say.

The best way is to aquire data in advance. ID both targets and estimate their speed & course. Always shoot for the furtherst one first. The speed is likely to be the same for both. The course as well. Track the furtherst target with the PK. Try to get an accurate solution. Calculate the AoB for the second (closer) target in advance, just before you fire on the first target. Don't input into the TDC just yet. Next fire the first salvo at target #1. Quickly input the AoB and get a range reading on the second (closer) target. Input that into the TDC (be sure the PK is off else you might shoot at the previous target) and re-send the same speed as before. Now you have a solution. Should take less than 20 seconds from the time you fire on the furtherst merchant till you have a reliable solution on the closer one.

I've done this a few times and it's good as long as you can estimate the second target's AoB in advance. That's the key to the whole deal.

EDIT: Here's a rough representation:

As a minor refinement to Switch.dota's post. I simply plot a line at say 30 degrees at which I intend to fire and determine the AOB (which in this case is usually around 60 degrees for a medium to short range shot). I line up the scope on the 30 degree line and fire at the furthest target when it crosses. Then I wait for the second ship. When it first enters the periscope viewer I take a quick range reading and then when it intersects the periscope crosshairs I fire the second shot. No need to re-enter AOB or speed.
