Hello,
I've been around the Subsim and Silent Hunter scene for a little while now and while I've never developed a full mod or tweak, I have done some manual tweaking to game files in both the Silent Hunter realm and other games... Anyways... I'm not sure if a new version of SH Commander is being constructed for Silent Hunter IV or if it already has (if so point me towards it! I need it!), but I have an idea that could perhaps be rolled into it. It's essentially a logging of each torpedo and shell you fire, but it goes beyond the simple "hit," "miss," and "dud" percentages and statistics. If possible this program would log each piece of ordiance you use, it's effect, perhaps run time, angle/solution inputs, but the main part would that it takes these results and link them to a modified version of the Recognition Manual that has individual compartments and sectors outlined on each ship. These sectors will be color cordinated to reflect the players specific tendencies of torpedo impacts. For example, I'm playing my first patrol, after completion I go to look at this log. Let's say I encountered and sank 5 Nippon Maru tankers and most of most shots were aimed and hit at the engine room in the stern of the ship under the stack, say 75%. The outlined engine room compartment is lightly shaded red by the compartment to reflect that an overwhelming majority of my torpedos hit here. I'm not sure if this is possible or where to even begin, but I'd at least like to try or to pass on the idea to those of you with much more experience than I. Edit: I guess this is more of a request than anything else since I do not have the programmer skills to undertake such a project.
