Default my cpu

i have the amd xp3400 64bit processor which my copy of sh3 tellss me in insufficient as having a frequency(?) of 1005.
what does that mean?would it be a problem for the computer if i simply put in a pentium processor instead?perhaps pentium 4?

will a nVidia 7800GS 256MB graphics card run this game ok? pixel shading etc?

this klind of running trouble is really put me off computer games in general.

The Processor should be fine. Also you cant just put a pentium in you pc that would require a new motherboard compatable with the processor.
As for the gfx card good ghoice although you dont mention what your upgrading from.

Your graphics card is fine
Your CPU is either 2.2 or 2.4Ghz depending on the varient
Should be fine
Have you tried running SH3 ?

How much RAM do you have
1Gb is minimum really
More is better

yes i tried running it and it says processor frequency(whatever the h ll that is)is only 1005 and thus insufficient and the pixel shading of my current graphics card is insufficiaent.(256mb fx6200 agp) ps 1.1 pixel shader which i dont follow.

Are you talking about SH3 ? I run it without any problems on a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ with 1.6GHz, ATI Radeon8600 and 1Gb RAM. It runs very fine, the only things I am concerned with are relatively long loading times and I had to cut down most of the harbour traffic from GWX to make it run smoothly in harbours.

That your CPU is called insufficient may just be a problem with it's 64 bit registers. This shouldn't bother you.
And even IF your CPU wasn't sufficient for SH3, the same programm said that my 1.6GHz wouldn't be enough for the SH3 recommendations but I get constant framerates about 50fps. And if your not playing a 3D shooter, this is way enough .

Perhaps you're "underclocking" your processor.

Right click My Computer
click properties
on the next screen it will identify to speed that your processor is running at.
if it's low then you need to adjust your BIOS settings during startup!

Your specs will run the game fine, except for slow loading time and some slowdown when in port (with harbor traffic enabled) and heavy particle rendering.
If this bothers you too much adjust particle rendering to a lower level in video options, and enable lite harbor traffic.
Sink 'em all!

And are you sure you don't mean FX 5200 And Sh4? The GeForce 6200 should have no problem with any 'Silent Hunter' title (well, it'll be slow in '4', but still work). The FX 5200 will work with Sh3, too...not so sure about Sh4, though.

In any case, you probably have your power options set to "Minimal Power Management" or something else that allows the system to throttle the CPU down when not in use (AMD called this "Cool 'n Quiet" or "PowerNOW" depending on the CPU brand). No need to disable this, as it will kick up the CPU power for when you are actually playing...but if you DO want to disable it, just open Control Panel, choose "Power Options", and set it to "Home/Office Desk" or "Always On".

(EDIT: Actually, if you WERE talking about Sh3...and did have a GeForce 6200...it's entirely possible the pre-game detection wizard is detecting the card all wrong. I seem to recall it did the same for my Radeon X1950 Pro. Basically, the game was just released too far before the advent of some of these newer cards, and so it doesn't properly report their status. In which case the game should actually work just fine.)

ABBAFAN, can you download & run Everest Home Edition? http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Then please create a report for your system summary only and paste the report here.

Just the summary wil do, don't need the PCI Debug details.

This will certainly tell us if SH3 is detecting things wrong or whether your system is autoclocking down.
