Tribute to GWX Team

Hello all Kaleuns

After being away for some time,I am back to Silent Service.I would like to share some minds about what GWX team did to Ubisoft marketing and submarine simulation genre in general.

Ubisoft goes on making money out of best selling Silent Hunter III.To my mind, this company should pay a real tribute to GWX Development Team as GWX superb freeware mod package has obviously rescued Ubi out of very possible financial crisis.

SHIV project is a failure at about 60 percent.Of course, lot's of great mod makers will pull it up to the more or less level of SHIII,but it's getting pretty clear that it will be nearly impossible to push it to the level of GWX 1.03,I don't even mention the coming GWX 1.04.U.S. submarine service has just not enough potential to compete with Kriegsmarine - I mean German "Hi-Tech U-Boats" vs.mediocre U.S. diesel submarines, extreme atmosphere of warfare and danger there in the Atlantic, and constant self-confidence in Pacific.

Lot's of people are still purchasing copies of SHIII.I asked some of them why are they doing this - there is plenty of available SHIV copies already. And nearly all of them say - "You know, there is a great mod over there in the Internet,I am going to download it,it's called.....GWX".These people are even not a members of Subsim Community, just ordinary gamers trying out themselves in submarine simulations. This situation applies not only to U.S. or U.K. or any other larger country but it's absolutely everywhere - people who play SHIII play a GWX.

I am jumping to conclusion, that a big percent of great SHIII based Ubisoft profits are made thanks to GWX Super Mod package in fact. Moreover, taking into account a great ammount of work GWX developers did - their product can even be called not a mod,but at least add-on,or even a further version of SHIII.

It's very sad, that GWX Team is going to cease the series after the release of GWX 1.04.There is really nothing to play besides SHIII+GWX on the gaming market today- all other games lack something in one or other area.

These are just my personal thoughts, you might disagree with.As for myself,I am getting into my brand new Type VIIB U-47 and heading towards Scapa Flow.

Good Hunting to all Kaleuns

No doubt....

And what does UBI do? They release a SH III gold edition with mods from X1, stolen from this community....

It would have been a much wiser move to incorporate GWX in the SH III ultimate edition.....and give credit (and $) where it is due...GWX!

It is quite obvious amount of work,GWX developers did producing all versions of GWX at least matches or exceedes that Ubisoft put in production of SHIII itself.
That is true,GWX Team could quite successfully participate in the creation of the next sequels of Silent Hunter series.

In fact,Ubisoft did a game engine and idea for SHIII.All other aspects were polished up by mod-makers,and by 80-90 percent by GWX team.

That would be nice,if a super package of SHIII with GWX 1.04 hits the market instead of present rumoured "Gold Edition".

Problem is UBI can't implement GWX in a more friendly way because nobody owns this data. It has no specific owner, that's the whole problem.

Chances are, that, if GWX had been made by a certain John Smith from this or that address in London, Ubi may have bought it from him in a correct way, or worke together on the next SH.

But that's just not possible when it's coming from an anonymous community.

This is a quite usual situation on the gaming market when developing company fails supporting or maintaining it's product,as we can observe out of present situation around Ubisoft.Solutions are often the following:

1.Company sells entire trademark and exclusive rights to other company.

2.Company merges with other company or development team and produces further products.

Of course, this is just a pure concept...but GWX could transform into official gaming software company instead of stopping it's productions. For examle, something like GWX Limited or something else.
