Default [REQ] Stop the shimmering!

I have another request for all you talented modders out there. Have you ever noticed that the texture of a mast or gun barrel shimmers when the ship rocks in the ocean? The farther away the viewpoint the worse it gets.

Example. When viewing a tanker from about 1000 yards, the texture of a mast looks a bit like a barber pole. You get a swirl of light and dark that shimmers up and down the mast as the ship rocks. Is this a light mapping or shading problem?

Also the rendering of textures is awful at distance. As soon as you damage a ship the textures of the superstructure flicker like mad! Any clues as to the cause of this?

I have ZERO problems with texture mapping, Ansiotropic Filtering, etc. in all my other games so my video drivers should be setup correctly. However if you all have some tweaking pointers I am all ears...

Thanks again!

I guess they should have made SH4 an open boat where we run around inside and shoot each other a 1000 times. They seem to handle those games with numerous patches. --Longam UBI SHIV Forums

A sad day has dawned...

Shimmering has something to do w/the video driver you are using,I'm using a sli set-up and I see none of the problems you are seeing.

Ahh bummer. I am using the latest ATI 7.6 drivers. I really do not want to believe that the 3D engine that drives SHIV and ATI are incompatable but the more people complain this seems to be the case.

Are you Nvidia users out there experiencing the same shimmering? Is this game really FUBAR when it comes to ATI? My other games (COH, Medieval II, Earned in Blood) run fine so ATI is fine with other 3D engines.

Life is not fair!!
