QUIZ TIME: Das Boot (Experts only)
Welcome, fellow Kaleuns!
![]() So you really think you're an expert of the movie 'Das Boot', eh? ![]() Well, let's see if you can answer all the questions correctly. I compiled some questions concerning the movie which are listed below. Question #1: When did U-96 leave the harbour of La Rochelle? (day, month, year) Question #2: Where does the wife of the LI (chief engineer) live? (name of the city) Question #3: Right before the air strike at Gibraltar. Lt. Werner wants to spend a penny but the toilet is occupied. Who occupied it? (name) Question #4: Who gets injured (broke his arm) during the heavy storm? (name) Question #5: There was a radio report concerning the German Football League. What was the scoring for Schalke? (result) Question #6: After escaping Gibraltar the whole crew was allowed half a bottle of beer. What was the brand of the beer? (name) Question #7: On board the Weser (Vigo, Spain). A marine attache informed the Old Man that Lt. Werner and the LI had to stay on board of U-96. What was his name? (name) Question #8: What was the name of Ullmann's french girlfriend? (name) Question #9: What are the names of the two crew members who are constantly telling each other dirty jokes? (name 1, name 2) Question #10: Who composed the music for Das Boot? (name) OK, the last one is quite easy, so at least you should be able to answer ONE question, hehehe... ![]() Please don't cheat by watching the movie again! Try to answer the questions from your own memory. ![]() These questions were made just for fun, so I won't laugh at you if some of your answers are wrong. Good luck! ![]() Thniper

Hell, I just saw this last night on the TV and the only question I can answer is:
Question #3: Right before the air strike at Gibraltar. Lt. Werner wants to spend a penny but the toilet is occupied. Who occupied it? (name) Johan the engine guy who almost got himself shot. He looked very guilty coming out of the WC. Perhaps he was having a little private time with himself if you get my meaning.? In my defense I was involved with a CNV in SH3 during most of the film. Sorry to say that little adventure ended badly. |

![]() At 4): You're right, I mixed it up somehow, sorry. At 1): No, you're wrong here. I think it's the most difficult question to answer. A little hint: You can find out the exact date if you have a look at Lt. Werner's diary!

Btw,
In the book, it is not Schalke which lost, but FC Herta BSC Berlin (Herta hat verloren). Schalke was very unlikely to lose often in the 1940s, as the club simply won every trophy every time. I suppose they changed it to Schalke because in the 1980s the (West) Berlin club Hertha was rather a obscure third league club (today they are back in the Bundesliga). But Schalke is simply THE prewar german football team and if anyone thinks of prewar german football, the first team he thinks of is Schalke. Today, they're just the eternal second. But in the 1930s-late 1940s, Schalke was what Bayern Munich is today, at least regarding their successes. On the other hand, Schalke accomplished that by using innovative new (at the time) playing styles and tactics inspired by Brazil where one of the coaches had lived, while Bayern today just throws around lots of money.
