GWX Locking-up

Unfortunately, ever since I installed GWX it has caused SH3 to lock-up at least 2 or 3 times per patrol. In my case, I get a flicker in the graphics (either the sky or ship skins) and then the game locks up. I can't even ctrl-del out of it... I have to pull the plug and reboot.

Anyone else have any problems like this?

Sounds like either your GFX card or CPU are overheating to me. GWX pushes your system quite a bit more than stock.

Open your case, vacumn all the dust out from inside, esp. from around the heatsinks. Dust is an excellent. Make sure the fans are working. And also if you are overclocking, cut your clock speed (cpu AND GFX) back a bit.

I use to have my specs in my sig...

AMD64 FX55
Dual nVidia 6800 ultras (presently not running in SLI mode though)
2gig memory

Not attempting anything fancy... no overclocking.

Drivers might need updating, go to the Nvidia web-site and check.

I think the drivers are OK; but heat does seem to be an issue.

The card that's driving the monitor that runs SH3 is quite a bit hotter to the touch than the other card. Fans are running OK but still the thing is getting pretty hot.

I've got the inner card running SH3... I'm gonna try switching the monitor to the outer card where there may be a little more airflow. Any recommendations for additional heat dissapation?

Well, assuming you've cleared all of the dust from around the card's heatsink, the only things you can do are improve the heatsink, or increase the airflow.

Or underclock the card. Underclocking it might be worth a go, just to prove that heat is the problem.

You could add some extraction fans
Dual gfx will produce a lot more heat in the case and SH3 runs the cards pretty hard
