Me likes the sound of that, especially the whole 'declaration of war' stuff. Thats something that basically prevents one man dragging the country into a stink.

gah!

thiiiiings! can only get bett... sorry, the same.

Bring on the puns about 'brown noise'.
I can't say I'm pleased, given his track record on squeezing every last little drop of cash out of everyone that he could as chancellor of the exchequer, I'm expecting the same attitude as pm. I think what he did regarding taxing pensions was despicable; so on the whole I'm expecting everything to get alot more expensive across the board. From council tax to income tax and god help you if you drive a car.
That's just the money stuff.

I anticipate the same pc pandering fluff his predecessor was so bloody keen on, the steady erosion of liberty where it becomes more and more commonplace to have the law assume guilt and the onus will be transferred to the individual thereafter to prove their innocence instead of the law having to build a successful case against the individual to prove guilt. All this and more; diabolical mishandling of the nhs, endless comities peopled by magazine cut-outs who have no clearer perspective on reality than a jar of olives, deciding how the rest of us should live and pay taxes, more of that 'give to criminals' with laws that are a pointlessly ineffective result of knee jerk politics 'to be seen to be doing something about it' spin.

sickening business as usual then, for nu-labour.

As we all know never ever ever believe the crap that politicians spout at 'the beginning' (of anything) because they never deliver on what they promise and in some cases opt for the complete u-turn effect once they are nicely settled into their new political digs.

The two words that the now Prime Minister Brown has kept using over the last few days including his speech in front of No.10 this afternoon have been "new" and "change". Do you get the feeling that Brown is trying to distance himself and the Labour Party from the Tony Blair legacy? :hmm:

It's quite amusing, because at this current point in time....the UK doesn't have a government...does that mean we're in a state of anarchy?

I have to say its a very clever trick, even had me fooled for a second.

Not that it makes a big deal, because Tony Blair never actually declared war on anybody. Just engaged in "military actions" there is a big difference... apparantly...

Its a subtle difference thats made it possible for the USA to not have actually been at war since WW2... officially. That the propoganda machines always spout "war" and even the politicians seems to make people forget how NOT at war they legally are.

I'm not sure though. Korea might or might not have been delcared. I heard it wasn't recently. I'll do some checking.

No war has been declared since 1939. War was declaired abhorrent and illegal by the United Nations which stated that actions in self defence are the only legitimate form of armed action. Since then, the world has been at peace

So, Korea and the 1991 Gulf War come under acts of collective security

The Falklands becomes the 1982 South Atlantic Crisis (The official UK name)

The 2003 Gulf War becomes an Act of Self Defence

And Vietnam... ...never happened.
