Stay clear from sinking ships in GWX

First of all, congrats to the GWX mod team for their work . Since GWX 2 came out, I haven't been patrolling the Pacific in SH4. The one (of many) thing I love is the damage model. The other night I torpedoed a costal freighter and got the 'ship is sinking' message. I then surfaced and and ended up pretty close to the sinking freighter. Then all of a sudden BOOM!! It was like the 4th of July. I lost 2 crew members on the watch tower, lost both periscopes and antenna, lost the radio room, and pretty well every compartment was flooding with hull damage at 81%. I must be out of my mind, but I LOVED IT! I can just imagine what would have happened if I was next to a large tanker.

So again thanks to the GWX team for making a great game even greater.

If you have received the ship sinking message prior to surfacing, I am suprised you are being fired on :hmm:

I think he means that he was damaged from an explosion from the sinking ship. I've had that too but thankfully not as bad as Katana.

As Oberon said, it was from the secondary explosions. Think I have to add more medics for future patrols .

Anybody ever been hit by a sinking ship as it is plummeting to the bottom?

I was hit by a sinking merchant once, and I hit another sinking ship as I was trying to avoid being depth charged by a Destroyer. Since those good old days I learn my lesson and I'm a bit more careful now

Yesterday I lost 3 crew members from a falling funnel of a sinking ship blown to pieces. The boat also got damage, but not so serious as yours. Now I consider ending my career if I find that in such circumstances a commander would be punished for his carelessness. :/

And you are right - the new damage model is amazing and the sinking ships that are still dangerous add much to the game. It's fantastic.

Ive sunk more destroyers than I have merchants...youll wish you never sailed into U-87s hunting grounds. When you pull into port, dont lull yourself into a false sense of security, your mines and subnets are just a petty challenge for my crew and I.

Take a look through the early pages of the "SH3 Screenshots" thread. There are a couple of guys who took pictures of their subs being dragged to their graves by merchants (and one battleship).

As for explosions, I was once killed by a tanker I was shelling. I got too close, and it took me with it when it went up...and this was in the Gunnery Training Course!

I was depth charged by a plane once and my u-boat twirled underwater. like spun upside-down a few times.

Something strange happened to me yesterday! I've hit a merchant and watched some violent explosions on the ships deck after the torpedo struck, so it was obviously an ammo ship. I surfaced while the ship sunk and moved slowly closer, to about 500 meters. A minute or two after the ship had disappeared below the waves I've heard a number of explosions, but couldn't see anything, then damage reports came in. With every explosion, by boat took more and more damage. I could barely escape. Seems as if the ship exploded half way to the bottom and almost took me with it! Then.......CTD!

well, if the damage model is good (actualy it is, but this cant be done anyway) then i should have had a IIC instead of a VIIC on my last patrol, damn merchant refused to sink, was out of torpedos and weather was to bad for the gun... sollution ? INDEED! i rammed it

unfortunatly it didnt work so well and i lost half the boat's hull %, merchant ? was still floating arround

eventualy waited 2 days for the weather to clear up, surfaced and spend 80 shells in the bugger (he was dead after 5 but what the heck... was angry at it)
